Abstract

An electrical mating interface includes one or more electrical connectors that electrically couple the mounting device to a corresponding set of electrical connectors of an electronic device. The electrical mating interface further includes a front façade comprising a plunger coupled to a safety switch. The safety switch is disposed between the one or more electrical connectors and main wiring of a dwelling. When the plunger depresses upon coupling of the electronic device to the electrical mating interface, the safety switch closes and electrically couples the main wiring of the dwelling to the electronic device.

Claims (35)

1. An electrical mating interface for mating an electronic device with a mounting device, comprising:

one or more electrical connectors that electrically couple the mounting device to a corresponding set of electrical connectors of the electronic device;

a front façade comprising a plunger coupled to a safety switch, the safety switch being disposed between the one or more electrical connectors and main wiring of a dwelling; and

wherein the plunger depresses and closes the safety switch upon coupling of the electronic device to the electrical mating interface, and wherein closing the safety switch electrically couples the main wiring of the dwelling to the electronic device.

2. The electrical mating interface of claim 1 , wherein the one or more electrical connectors receive electrical power from the main wiring of the dwelling when the safety switch is closed.

3. The electrical mating interface of claim 1 , wherein the electrical mating interface includes a recess in which the one or more electrical connectors are disposed.

4. The electrical mating interface of claim 1 , wherein the plunger depresses along a horizontal axis, and wherein the safety switch closes along a vertical axis.

5. The electrical mating interface of claim 1 , wherein when the plunger is in an extended position, the safety switch creates an air gap that disconnects power to the one or more electrical connectors.

6. The electrical mating interface of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device comprises a home device controller for controlling one or more smart home devices.

7. The electrical mating interface of claim 1 , further comprising:

an insert plate disposed within a wall box of the dwelling;

wherein the main wiring of the dwelling extends through the insert plate to couple to the safety switch.

8. A mounting device comprising:

one or more electrical connectors that electrically couple the mounting device to a corresponding set of electrical connectors of an electronic device;

a front façade comprising a plunger coupled to a safety switch, the safety switch being disposed between the one or more electrical connectors and main wiring of a dwelling; and

wherein the plunger depresses and closes the safety switch upon coupling of the electronic device to the electrical mating interface, and wherein closing the safety switch electrically couples the main wiring of the dwelling to the electronic device.

9. The mounting device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more electrical connectors receive electrical power from the main wiring of the dwelling when the safety switch is closed.

10. The mounting device of claim 8 , wherein the electrical mating interface includes a recess in which the one or more electrical connectors are disposed.

11. The mounting device of claim 8 , wherein the plunger depresses along a horizontal axis, and wherein the safety switch closes along a vertical axis.

12. The mounting device of claim 8 , wherein when the plunger is in an extended position, the safety switch creates an air gap that disconnects power to the one or more electrical connectors.

13. The mounting device of claim 8 , wherein the electronic device comprises a home device controller for controlling one or more smart home devices.

14. The mounting device of claim 8 , further comprising:

an insert plate disposed within a wall box of the dwelling;

wherein the main wiring of the dwelling extends through the insert plate to couple to the safety switch.

15. A mounting assembly comprising:

an electrical mating interface that comprises:

one or more electrical connectors that electrically couple the mounting assembly to a corresponding set of electrical connectors of an electronic device;

a front façade comprising a plunger coupled to a safety switch, the safety switch being disposed between the one or more electrical connectors and main wiring of a dwelling; and

an insert plate disposed within a wall box of the dwelling, wherein the main wiring of the dwelling extends through the insert plate to couple to the safety switch; and

wherein the plunger depresses and closes the safety switch upon coupling of the electronic device to the electrical mating interface, and wherein closing the safety switch electrically couples the main wiring of the dwelling to the electronic device.

16. The mounting assembly of claim 15 , wherein the one or more electrical connectors receive electrical power from the main wiring of the dwelling when the safety switch is closed.

17. The mounting assembly of claim 15 , wherein the electrical mating interface includes a recess in which the one or more electrical connectors are disposed.

18. The mounting assembly of claim 15 , wherein the plunger depresses along a horizontal axis, and wherein the safety switch closes along a vertical axis.

19. The mounting assembly of claim 15 , wherein when the plunger is in an extended position, the safety switch creates an air gap that disconnects power to the one or more electrical connectors.

20. The mounting assembly of claim 15 , wherein the electronic device comprises a home device controller for controlling one or more smart home devices.
