Claims (35)

. A method for treating a disease or disorder in or around an eye of an individual in need thereof, the method comprising:

administering a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition to an ocular surface, surrounding ocular tissues, or a combination thereof of the individual;

wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises a therapeutically effective amount of selenium disulfide (SeS 2 ); and

wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered at bedtime or within an hour of bedtime.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the disease or disorder in or around the eye is dry eye syndrome.

. The method of claim 2 , wherein the individual has meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

. The method of claim 3 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered at bedtime.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is applied to an eyelid margin of the individual.

. The method of claim 5 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered to the individual in a volume of less than about microliters (μL).

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the individual applies a volume of less than about 25 μL of the pharmaceutical composition to an eyelid margin of the individual.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises selenium disulfide in a therapeutically effective concentration.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the therapeutically effective concentration is about 0.5 by weight (wt. %).

. The method of claim 9 , wherein the individual applies a volume of less than about 25 μL of the pharmaceutical composition to an eyelid margin of the individual.

. The method of claim 10 , wherein the disease or disorder in or around the eye of the individual in need thereof is dry eye syndrome and the individual has MGD.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the disease or disorder in or around the eye is meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the disease or disorder in or around the eye is meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and the individual has signs and symptoms of dry eye disease.

. The method of claim 13 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is applied to an eyelid of the individual.

. The method of claim 14 , wherein the individual applies a volume of less than about 25 μL of the pharmaceutical composition to an eyelid margin of the individual at bedtime.

. The method of claim 15 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises selenium disulfide in an amount of about 0.5 by weight (wt. %) to about 1.0% wt. %.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the individual has signs and symptoms of dry eye disease.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the individual has meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the individual has meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and sins and symptoms of dry eye disease.

. The method of claim 18 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is applied to an eyelid of the individual.

. The method of claim 20 , wherein the individual applies a volume of less than about 25 μL of the pharmaceutical composition to an eyelid margin of the individual at bedtime.

. The method of claim 18 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises selenium disulfide in an amount of about 0.5 by weight (wt. %) to about 1.0% wt. %.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is applied to an eyelid of the individual.

. The method of claim 23 , wherein the individual applies a volume of less than about 25 μL of the pharmaceutical composition to the eyelid of the individual.

. The method of claim 24 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises selenium disulfide in an amount of about 0.5 by weight (wt. %) to about 1.0% wt. %.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered to the individual in a volume of less than about 25 microliters (μL) at bedtime.

. The method of claim 26 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises selenium disulfide in an amount of about 0.5 wt. %.

. The method of claim 27 , wherein the individual applies the pharmaceutical composition to an eyelid margin of the individual.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises selenium disulfide in an amount of about 0.5 by weight (wt. %) to about 1.0% wt. %.

. The method of claim 29 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises selenium disulfide in an amount of about 0.5 wt. %.

. The method of claim 30 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition the individual applies a volume of less than about 25 μL of the pharmaceutical composition.
