Golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads
Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a hollow body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a bottom portion, a rear portion, and a front portion having a face portion. A first interior cavity is separated from a second interior cavity by a cavity wall portion. The cavity wall portion includes a forward wall section, a rearward wall section positioned further from the face portion that the forward wall section, and an intermediate portion positioned between the forward wall section and the rearward wall section. At least one of the forward wall section or the rearward wall section of the cavity wall portion is non-parallel to the face portion. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.
1. A golf club head comprising:
a hollow body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a bottom portion, a rear portion, and a front portion having a face portion;
a first interior cavity defined by an internal volume of the body portion, the first interior cavity being at least 50% filled with a first elastic polymer portion; and
a second interior cavity defined by a recess in the bottom portion and a bottom cover attached to the bottom portion, the second interior cavity separated from the first interior cavity by a cavity wall portion, the cavity wall portion comprising:
a forward wall section;
a rearward wall section positioned further from the face portion than the forward wall section; and
an intermediate portion positioned between the forward wall section and the rearward wall section,
wherein the forward wall section of the cavity wall portion is non-parallel to the face portion, and
wherein the first interior cavity is associated with a first volume, wherein the second interior cavity is associated with a second volume, and wherein the first volume is less than or equal to 50% of the second volume.
2. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second interior cavity is at least 50% filled with a second elastic polymer portion.
3. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising a port on the body portion connected to the second interior cavity.
4. A golf club head as defined in claim 3 , wherein the port is connected to the second interior cavity by an interior port.
5. A golf club head as defined in claim 4 , wherein the interior port is positioned at least partially rearward of the second interior cavity.
6. A golf club head as defined in claim 4 , wherein the interior port has a cross-sectional area that is less than a cross-sectional area of the second interior cavity in a face portion to rear portion direction.
7. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the forward wall section of the cavity wall portion is non-parallel to the rearward wall section of the cavity wall portion.
8. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the rearward wall section of the cavity wall portion is non-parallel to the face portion.
9. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the cavity wall portion may be made partially or entirely of an aluminum-based material.
10. A golf club head comprising:
a hollow body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a bottom portion, a rear portion, and a front portion having a face portion;
a first interior cavity defined by an internal volume of the body portion, the first interior cavity configured to be at least partially filled with a first elastic polymer portion; and
a second interior cavity defined by a recess in the bottom portion and a bottom cover attached to the bottom portion, the second interior cavity configured to be at least partially filled with a second polymer portion, the second interior cavity separated from the first interior cavity by a cavity wall portion, the cavity wall portion comprising:
a forward wall section;
a rearward wall section positioned further from the face portion than the forward wall section; and
an intermediate wall section positioned between the forward wall section and the rearward wall section,
wherein the rearward wall section of the cavity wall portion is non-parallel to the face portion,
wherein the first interior cavity is associated with a first volume,
wherein the second interior cavity is associated with a second volume, and
wherein the first volume is less than or equal to 50% of the second volume.
11. A golf club head as defined in claim 10 further comprising a port on the body portion connected to the second interior cavity.
12. A golf club head as defined in claim 11 , wherein the port is connected to the second interior cavity by an interior port.
13. A golf club head as defined in claim 12 , wherein the interior port is positioned at least partially on an opposing side of the second interior cavity from the face portion.
14. A golf club head as defined in claim 10 , wherein the forward wall section of the cavity wall portion is non-parallel to the face portion.
15. A golf club head as defined in claim 10 , wherein the cavity wall portion may be made partially or entirely of an aluminum-based material.
16. A golf club head as defined in claim 10 , wherein the forward wall section of the cavity wall portion is non-parallel to the rearward wall section of the cavity wall portion.
17. A golf club head comprising:
a hollow body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a bottom portion, a rear portion, and a front portion having a face portion, the face portion defining a front surface and a back surface; and
a cavity wall portion defining a first interior cavity and a separate, second interior cavity along the bottom portion of the body portion, and the second interior cavity configured to be at least partially filled with a second elastic polymer portion, the cavity wall portion comprising:
an upper wall section;
an intermediate wall section; and
a lower wall section positioned on an opposing side of the intermediate wall section from the upper wall section,
Wherein the upper wall section is positioned below the top portion and the lower wall section is positioned above the bottom portion, and wherein the cavity wall portion is less than or equal to 1.0 inch (25.4 millimeters) from the face portion.
18. A golf club head as defined in claim 17 , wherein the cavity wall portion may be made partially or entirely of an aluminum-based material.
19. A golf club head as defined in claim 17 , wherein the cavity wall portion forms a truncated pyramid-like structure on the back surface of the face portion.
20. A golf club head as defined in claim 17 , wherein the cavity wall portion forms a cuboid-like structure on the back surface of the face portion.
