Abstract

The present invention relates to antimicrobial, disinfecting, and wound healing compositions and methods for producing and using the same. The compositions may comprise one or more of a peracid, a hydroperoxide, a bis(hydroperoxide), or an epoxide.

Claims (9)

1 . A method for wound decontamination after exposure to a chemical biological warfare agent, the method comprising contacting a wound exposed to a chemical biological warfare agent with a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising wound healing compounds, wherein the wound healing compounds consist of:

(a) peracetic acid at a concentration of between 0.64 wt. % and 8.64 wt. % based on the total weight of the composition;

(b) acetic acid at a concentration of between 1.2 wt. % and 15.84 wt. % based on the total weight of the composition; and

(c) hydrogen peroxide at a concentration of between 1.2 wt. % and 14.4 wt. % based on the total weight of the composition.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the wound is a surgical wound, battle wound, accidental wound, chemical burn wound, or a chronic wound.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the wound is contacted with the composition once a day.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is formulated as a gel, a liquid, lotion, skin patch, irrigation gel, a spray, application granules, or a combination thereof.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising a magnesium salt.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the magnesium salt is a magnesium salt of peracetic acid.
