Abstract

An air system for use in an air bed system can include a manifold and one or more valves. The manifold can define a an inlet, an outlet, and a vent fluidically connected to atmosphere. A method of operating an air bed system can include deflating an air chamber through the vent in a first valve configuration and through the vent and an exhaust port in a second valve configuration.

The pump assembly of claim 1 , and further comprising an inflatable chamber connected to the outlet conduit of the fluid manifold, wherein the pump is configured to pump air from the pump through the fluid manifold to inflate the inflatable chamber, wherein the inflatable chamber is configured to support at least a portion of a sleeper.

3. The pump assembly of claim 2 , wherein the inflatable chamber is a first inflatable chamber, the unvalved vent conduit is a first unvalved vent conduit and the outlet conduit is a first outlet conduit configured to be fluidly coupled to the first inflatable chamber, and the fluid pathway is a first fluid pathway defined by the fluid manifold, the first outlet conduit, and the first unvalved vent conduit, the pump assembly further comprising:

a second inflatable air chamber;

a second outlet conduit fluidly coupled to the manifold interior, the second outlet conduit configured to control a flow of the fluid from the manifold interior to a second inflatable chamber;

a second unvalved vent conduit extending from the manifold interior to the atmosphere; and

wherein a second fluid pathway is defined by the fluid manifold, the second outlet conduit, and the second unvalved vent conduit so that the fluid is free to pass along the second fluid pathway from the second outlet conduit through the second unvalved vent conduit to the atmosphere.

4. The pump assembly of claim 3 , wherein the first fluid pathway and the second fluid pathway are fluidly coupled in the manifold interior regardless of a position of the valve.

5. The pump assembly of claim 3 , wherein the first fluid pathway and the second fluid pathway are separate pathways.

6. The pump assembly of claim 3 , wherein the inlet conduit, the first unvalved vent conduit, and the second unvalved vent conduit extend through a same outer surface of the fluid manifold.

7. The pump assembly of claim 1 , wherein the unvalved vent conduit is configured to, when the pump is not operated, allow the fluid to flow from the outlet conduit into the manifold interior and slowly out the unvalved vented conduit.

8. The pump assembly of claim 1 , wherein the unvalved vent conduit is configured to, when the pump is operated, allow the fluid to flow from the pump through the manifold interior through the outlet conduit as well as slowly out the unvalved vented conduit.

9. The pump assembly of claim 1 , wherein the flow out the unvalved vent conduit is slow such that a fluid loss through the unvalved vent conduit is negligible.

10. The pump assembly of claim 1 , wherein the flow out the unvalved vent conduit does not negatively affect inflation of an inflatable chamber.

11. The pump assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fluid manifold further defines an exhaust port conduit fluidly coupled to the manifold interior and extending to the atmosphere, wherein the pump assembly further comprises:

an exhaust control valve coupled to the exhaust port conduit and positioned to selectively open and close the exhaust port conduit.

12. The pump assembly of claim 11 , wherein the exhaust port conduit is sized to quickly deflate an inflatable chamber.

13. The pump assembly of claim 11 , wherein the exhaust port conduit has a cross-sectional area between 25 and 14,400 times larger than the unvalved vent conduit.

14. An inflatable system comprising:

an inflatable chamber configured to support at least a portion of a sleeper;

a pump fluidly coupled to the inflatable chamber; and

a fluid control manifold positioned between the pump and the inflatable chamber, the fluid control manifold configured to control a flow of fluid from the pump to the inflatable chamber, the fluid control manifold defining a manifold interior, the fluid control manifold comprising:

an inlet conduit configured to conduct the flow of the fluid from the pump into the manifold interior;

an unvalved vent conduit extending from manifold interior to an atmosphere; and

an outlet conduit configured to flow of the fluid from the manifold interior to the inflatable chamber; and

a valve positioned proximate the outlet conduit, the valve operable to control the flow of fluid through the manifold interior from the pump to the outlet conduit, the fluid control manifold defining a fluid pathway in which the fluid is free to pass by the valve from inflatable chamber to the outlet conduit, and from the outlet conduit through the unvalved vent conduit to the atmosphere regardless of a position of the valve.

15. The inflatable system of claim 14 , wherein the unvalved vent conduit is configured to, when the pump is not operated, allow the fluid to flow from the inflatable chamber through the outlet conduit into manifold interior and bleed out the unvalved vented conduit.

16. The inflatable system of claim 15 , wherein the unvalved vent conduit is configured to, when the pump is operated, allow the fluid to flow from the pump through the fluid control manifold through the outlet conduit to inflate the inflatable chamber and bleed out the unvalved vented conduit while still inflating the inflatable chamber.
