Abstract

The present embodiments disclose a display device. A display device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may comprise a pixel including a plurality of sub-pixels having luminous elements respectively, wherein each of the plurality of sub-pixels may be arranged in parallel with each other; and a pixel circuit connected to the luminous elements for driving the luminous elements; wherein the luminous elements may emit light of one color among red, green, and blue, and wherein a number of luminous elements emitting red light may be greater than a number of luminous elements emitting green or blue light.

Claims (31)

1. A pixel circuit for driving a plurality of luminous elements with pulse width modulation (PWM) signals, the pixel circuit comprising:

a pixel memory configured to store image data of red, green, and blue; and

three sub-pixel drivers connected to luminous elements respectively, wherein the three sub-pixel drivers include first, second and third sub-pixel drivers, each sub-pixel driver including:

a PWM generation circuit configured to generate PWM signals based on bit values of the image data and a clock signal such that each of a plurality of a subframes included in the frame have a PWM signal according to each bit value, and

a control circuit configured to control a light-emission and non-emission of a respective luminous element in response to the PWM signals applied to each subframe,

wherein

the first sub-pixel driver is connected to and configured to drive two red luminous elements based on the image data of red stored in the pixel memory,

the second sub-pixel driver is connected to and configured to drive a green luminous element based on the image data of green stored in the pixel memory, and

the third sub-pixel driver is connected to and configured to drive a blue luminous element based on the image data of blue stored in the pixel memory.

2. The pixel circuit of claim 1 , wherein

the memory includes a first memory configured to store first image data of red, a second memory configured to store second image data of green, and a third memory configured to store third image data of blue.

3. The pixel circuit of claim 2 , further comprising:

a controller configured to generate a first sub-pixel driver control signal, a second sub-pixel driver control signal, and a third sub-pixel driver control signal based on the stored image data of red, green, and blue, respectively.

4. A display device comprising:

a pixel including

at least two first sub-pixels each having a red light emitting diode (LED) emitting red light,

a second sub-pixel having a green LED emitting green light, and

a third sub-pixel having a blue LED emitting blue light, wherein each sub-pixel is arranged in parallel with each other; and

a pixel circuit including three sub-pixel drivers configured to drive two red LEDs, the green LED, and the blue LED, each sub-pixel driver including:

a PWM generation circuit configured to generate a PWM signal based on bit values of image data and a clock signal such that each of a plurality of subframes included in a frame is controlled according to each bit value, and

a control circuit configured to control a light-emission and non-emission of a respective LED in response to the PWM signal applied to each of a plurality of subframes,

wherein the pixel circuit includes:

a memory unit having a first memory configured to store first image data of red, a second memory configured to store second image data of green, and a third memory configured to store third image data of blue;

a first sub-pixel driver configured to drive two red LEDs according to a first sub-pixel driver control signal;

a second sub-pixel driver configured to drive the green LED according to a second sub-pixel driver control signal; and

a third sub-pixel driver configured to drive the blue LED according to a third sub-pixel driver control signal.

5. The display device of claim 4 , wherein the pixel circuit includes:

a controller configured to generate the first, second, and third sub-pixel driver control signals based on a clock signal and the image data of red, green, and blue respectively.

6. The display device of claim 5 , wherein

each of the sub-pixel driver controls a light-emission and non-emission of an LED connected in response to a corresponding sub-pixel driver control signal applied to each of the plurality of subframes included in the frame, and

the controller generates each of the sub-pixel driver control signals based on the clock signal and the stored bit values such that each subframe included in the frame is controlled according to each bit value.
