Abstract

A system for compressing neural signal data using spatiotemporal data compression techniques. The system includes an implantable neural that receives electrophysiologic signal data from the electrode array, maps the electrophysiologic signal data to locations of each of the plurality of the electrodes, and compresses the mapped electrophysiologic signal data based on the locations of the plurality of electrodes utilizing a spatiotemporal data compression algorithm to define compressed electrophysiologic signal data. The implantable neural device can be connectable to a computer system that decompressed the electrophysiologic data for various downstream applications.

Claims (31)

1 . An implantable neural device comprising:

an electrode array, wherein the electrode array comprises a plurality of electrodes arranged in a uniform configuration; and

a controller configured to:

receive electrophysiologic signal data from the electrode array,

tile one or more frames of the electrophysiologic signal data based on spatial locations of electrode channels corresponding to the electrode array to define a macro frame,

compress the macro frame data based on the locations of the plurality of electrodes utilizing a spatiotemporal data compression algorithm to define compressed electrophysiologic signal data, and

transmit the compressed electrophysiologic signal data to an external device.

2 . The implantable neural device of claim 1 , wherein the spatiotemporal data compression algorithm is selected from the group consisting of H.264, H.265, AV1, and VC-1.

3 . The implantable neural device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of electrodes comprise non-penetrating electrodes.

4 . The implantable neural device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of electrodes are arranged in a grid.

5 . The implantable neural device of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to represent the electrophysiologic data in greyscale prior for compression.

6 . The implantable neural device of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to represent the electrophysiologic data in color prior for compression.

7 . The implantable neural device of claim 1 , wherein the compressed electrophysiologic signal data is transmitted wirelessly to the external device.

8 . A system comprising:

an implantable neural device comprising:

an electrode array, wherein the electrode array comprises a plurality of electrodes arranged in a uniform configuration, and

a controller configured to:

receive electrophysiologic signal data from the electrode array,

tile multiple frames of the electrophysiologic signal data based on spatial locations of electrode channels corresponding to the electrode array to define a macro frame,

compress the macro frame data based on the locations of the plurality of electrodes utilizing a spatiotemporal data compression algorithm to define compressed electrophysiologic signal data, and

transmit the compressed electrophysiologic signal data;

a computer system communicably coupled to the implantable neural device, the computer system comprising a memory and a processor, the memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the computer system to:

receive the compressed electrophysiologic data from the neural device,

decompress the electrophysiologic data, and

provide the decompressed electrophysiologic data to a user.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the spatiotemporal data compression algorithm is selected from the group consisting of H.264, H.265, AV1, and VC-1.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of electrodes comprise non-penetrating electrodes.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of electrodes are arranged in a grid.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the controller is further configured to represent the electrophysiologic data in greyscale prior for compression.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the controller is further configured to represent the electrophysiologic data in color prior for compression.

14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the implantable neural device wirelessly transmits the compressed electrophysiologic signal data to the computer system.
