Method of integrating therapeutic agent into a bioerodible medical device
A method of making a medical device which is at least partially bio-erodible and which exhibits controlled elution of therapeutic agent.
1. A method of making an implantable medical device comprising:
combining at least one therapeutic agent with a bioerodible material in powder form, wherein the-combining step includes mixing the at least one therapeutic agent with the bioerodible material to define a mixture,
wherein the mixture is deposited on a mandrel; and
forming a shaped medical device from the mixture by compressing and fusing the powder of the mixture together, wherein the at least one therapeutic agent is an integral part of a microstructure of the bioerodible material of the device.
2. A method of making a stent comprising:
providing a bioerodible material in powder form and an anti-proliferative therapeutic agent;
mixing the bioerodible material and the anti-proliferative therapeutic agent to form a mixture; and
forming a stent body from the mixture, wherein the forming comprises layered deposition of the mixture on a mandrel,
wherein the stent body comprises the anti-proliferative therapeutic agent associated with the bioerodible material.
