Abstract

A tubing string assembly for fluid treatment of a wellbore includes substantially pressure holding closures spaced along the tubing string, which each close at least one port through the tubing string wall. The closures are openable by a sleeve drivable through the tubing string inner bore.

3. An apparatus for fluid treatment of a borehole, the apparatus comprising:

a tubing string having a long axis and a wall defining an inner bore and an outer surface of the tubing string;

a plurality of sleeve closures accessible in the inner bore of the tubing string, each of the plurality of sleeve closures being actuatable by a first plug moveable through the tubing string, each of the plurality of sleeve closures being actuatable from a covering position over a port through the wall to an open position exposing the port, the covering position preventing fluid communication through the port between the inner bore and the outer surface and the open position permitting fluid communication through the port between the inner bore and the outer surface and each of the plurality of sleeve closures in the open position allowing the first plug to pass therethrough; and

a stop for stopping movement of the first plug through the tubing string and wherein the first plug stopped at the stop shuts off fluid communication to a lower segment of the tubing string inner bore below the stop and diverts fluid to the ports opened by the first plug.

4. An apparatus for fluid treatment of a borehole, the apparatus comprising:

a tubing string having a long axis and a wall defining an inner bore and an outer surface of the tubing string; and

a plurality of sleeve closures accessible in the inner bore of the tubing string, each of the plurality of sleeve closures being actuatable by a first plug moveable through the tubing string, each of the plurality of sleeve closures being actuatable from a covering position over a port through the wall to an open position exposing the port, the covering position preventing fluid communication through the port between the inner bore and the outer surface and the open position permitting fluid communication through the port between the inner bore and the outer surface, and each of the plurality of sleeve closures in the open position allowing the first plug to pass therethrough, wherein the ports opened by the first plug are size restricted to create a pressure drop thereacross.

5. An apparatus for fluid treatment of a borehole, the apparatus comprising:

a tubing string having a long axis and a wall defining an inner bore and an outer surface of the tubing string;

a plurality of sleeve closures accessible in the inner bore of the tubing string, each of the plurality of sleeve closures being actuatable by a first plug moveable through the tubing string, each of the plurality of sleeve closures being actuatable from a covering position over a port through the wall to an open position exposing the port, the covering position preventing fluid communication through the port between the inner bore and the outer surface and the open position permitting fluid communication through the port between the inner bore and the outer surface, and each of the plurality of sleeve closures in the open position allowing the first plug to pass therethrough; and

a second plurality of sleeve closures accessible in the inner bore of the tubing string, each of the second plurality of sleeve closures being actuable by a second plug moveable through the tubing string, each of the second plurality of sleeve closures being actuatable from a covering position over a fluid port through the wall to an open position exposing the fluid port, the covering position preventing fluid communication through the fluid port between the inner bore and the outer surface and the open position permitting fluid communication through the fluid port between the inner bore and the outer surface, and each of the second plurality of sleeve closures in the open position allowing the second plug to pass therethrough.

6. The apparatus for fluid treatment of a borehole of claim 5 wherein the first plug does not actuate the second plurality of sleeve closures.

7. The apparatus for fluid treatment of a borehole of claim 5 further comprising a second stop for stopping movement of the second plug through the tubing string and wherein the second plug stopped at the second stop shuts off a lower segment of the tubing string inner bore below the second stop and diverts fluid to the fluid ports opened by the second plug.

8. The apparatus for fluid treatment of a borehole of claim 5 wherein the fluid ports of the second plurality of sleeve closures include limited entry or flow regulation to create an inner bore to outer surface pressure drop to ensure distribution.

9. A method for treatment of a wellbore, the method comprising:

moving a first plug through a tubing string in a wellbore, the tubing string including a first sliding sleeve and a second sliding sleeve, the first sliding sleeve having a closed position preventing fluid flow through a first port in the tubing string wall and the second sliding sleeve having a closed position preventing fluid flow through a second port in the tubing string wall;

changing the first sliding sleeve to an open position allowing fluid communication through the first port by engaging the first plug on the first sliding sleeve;

passing the first plug through the first sliding sleeve in the open position to the second sliding sleeve; and

restricting flow through the first port to distribute fluid through the tubing string.

10. A method for treatment of a wellbore, the method comprising:

moving a first plug through a tubing string in a wellbore, the tubing string including a first sliding sleeve, a second sliding sleeve and a third sliding sleeve, the first sliding sleeve having a closed position preventing fluid flow through a first port in the tubing string wall, the second sliding sleeve having a closed position preventing fluid flow through a second port in the tubing string wall and the third sliding sleeve having a closed position preventing fluid flow through a third port in the tubing string wall;

changing the first sliding sleeve to an open position allowing fluid communication through the first port by engaging the first plus on the first sliding sleeve; and

passing the first plug through the first sliding sleeve in the open position to the second sliding sleeve,

and wherein moving the first plug through the tubing to engage the first sliding sleeve proceeds without changing the third sliding sleeve from the closed position.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising moving a second plug through the tubing string; and changing the third sliding sleeve to an open position allowing fluid communication through the third port by engaging the second plug on the third sliding sleeve.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the second plug is larger than the first plug.
