Microwave trigger metal-enhanced chemiluminescence (MT MEC) and spatial and temporal control of same
The present invention relates to a method of imaging structures and features using plasmonic emissions from metallic surfaces caused by chemiluminescence based chemical and biological reactions wherein imaging of the reactions is enhanced by the use of microwave energy and further enhanced by using metallic geometric structures for spatially and temporally controlling the biological and chemical reactions.
1. A reactive zone system for placement and containment of a molecule, cells, pathogens, bugs, or bacteria in a sample comprising:
a non-metallic substrate surface comprising at least two immobilized metallic structures, wherein each metallic structure is shaped as a triangle, wherein an apex of each of the two triangles is arranged in alignment and opposite from each and adjacent to a formed reactive zone surface on the non-metallic substrate surface between the apexes,
wherein the formed reactive zone positioned on the non-metallic substrate surface is of sufficient size for placement and containment of molecules, cells, pathogens, bugs, nucleic acid or bacteria and has a diameter of about 1 mm to about 5 mm, wherein the at least two immobilized metallic structures are fabricated from silver, gold, copper, platinum, aluminum or combinations thereof and exhibit surface plasmons upon excitation, and wherein the at least two immobilized metallic structures are positioned in an assay well.
2. The reactive zone system of claim 1 wherein the at least two immobilized metallic structures and the formed reactive zone are used for detecting fluorescence, phosphorescence, or chemiluminescence in an assay.
3. The reactive zone system of claim 2 , wherein the at least two immobilized metallic structures and the formed reactive zone are used to modify, perturb or mutate any of the physical, chemical or molecular integrity of the molecules, cells, pathogens, bugs, or bacteria.
4. A reactive zone system comprising:
a non-metallic substrate surface comprising at least two immobilized metallic structures, wherein each metallic structure is shaped as a triangle, wherein an apex of each of the two triangles is arranged in alignment and opposite from each and adjacent to a reactive zone formed between the apexes, wherein the reactive zone has sufficient size for placement and containment of molecules, cells, pathogens, bugs, nucleic acid or bacteria and has a diameter of about 0.05 mm to about 5 mm, wherein the non-metallic substrate surface is glass, polymeric, paper or combination thereof, wherein the at least two immobilized metallic structures are fabricated from silver, gold, copper, platinum, aluminum or combinations thereof and exhibit surface plasmons upon excitation, and wherein the at least two immobilized metallic structures are positioned in an assay well.
