Filter elements; air cleaner; assembly; and, methods
A filter element, a safety element and fluid cleaner assembly. The fluid cleaner assembly generally includes a housing having a cover and a primary fluid cleaner section. The element generally comprises z-filter media, arranged in a straight through configuration, and an axial seal gasket positioned to extend continuously around at outer perimeter of the straight through flow construction. The fluid cleaner assembly can have a precleaner positioned therein. Methods of assembly and use are provided.
1. An air filter cartridge comprising:
(a) a z-filter media construction having: an inlet flow face; an opposite outlet flow face; and, a non-circular outer perimeter;
(i) the z-filter media construction comprising an alternating construction of fluted media secured to non-fluted media;
(b) a frame member mounted on, and secured to, the z-filter media construction, the frame member comprising:
(i) a radially inwardly extending lip that hooks over the media construction and abuts one of the flow faces;
(ii) a band that extends completely, peripherally, around the media construction; and,
(iii) a radially, outwardly, extending projection that is positioned on the band and extends completely peripherally around the media construction; and,
(c) a seal member extending completely, peripherally, around the band and the media construction and supported by the radially, outwardly, extending projection.
2. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the seal member is constructed to form an axially directed seal against the frame member radially, outwardly, extending projection.
3. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the frame member comprises a cross-brace construction.
4. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the z-filter media has an obround shape.
5. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the z-filter media has a race track shape.
6. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the radially, outwardly, extending projection is located between the inlet flow face and the outlet flow face.
7. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the seal member, when the air filter cartridge is located within a housing, is constructed to form a seal between the radially, outwardly extending projection and the housing.
8. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the seal member is constructed to form an axially directed seal against the frame member radially, outwardly, extending projection.
9. An air filter cartridge according to claim 3 , wherein the cross-brace construction extends across the inlet flow face.
10. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the z-filter media construction comprises a coiled construction of the fluted media and the non-fluted media.
11. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the frame member is secured to the z-filter media construction by adhesive.
12. An air filter cartridge comprising:
(a) a z-filter media construction having: an inlet flow face; an opposite outlet flow face; and, a non-circular outer perimeter with two opposite rounded end sections;
(i) the z-filter media construction comprising a coiled construction of fluted media secured to non-fluted media; and,
(ii) the media construction including a non-cylindrical central core comprising a member including a non-cylindrical recess adjacent the outlet flow face and defined between two ends of the core located adjacent the outlet flow face;
(b) a frame member mounted on, and secured to, the z-filter media construction, the frame member comprising:
(i) a band that extends completely, peripherally, around the media construction; and,
(ii) radially, outwardly, extending projection that is positioned on the band and extends completely peripherally around the media construction; and,
(c) a seal member extending completely, peripherally, around the band and the media construction and supported by the radially, outwardly, extending projection.
13. An air filter cartridge according to claim 12 , wherein the seal member is constructed to form an axially directed seal against the frame member radially, outwardly, extending projection.
14. An air filter cartridge according to claim 12 , wherein the z-filter media has an obround shape.
15. An air filter cartridge according to claim 12 , wherein the z-filter media has a race track shape.
16. An air filter cartridge according to claim 12 , wherein the seal member, when the air filter cartridge is located within a housing, is constructed to form a seal between the radially, outwardly, extending projection and the housing.
17. An air filter cartridge according to claim 12 , wherein the frame member comprises a cross-brace construction.
18. An air filter cartridge according to claim 17 , wherein the cross-brace construction extends across the inlet flow face.
19. An air filter cartridge according to claim 12 , wherein the frame member is secured to the z-filter media construction by adhesive.
20. An air filter cartridge according to claim 12 , wherein the air filter cartridge prevents leakage by passage along the core.
21. An air filter cartridge according to claim 12 , wherein the core assists in manufacturing of the coiled construction.
22. An air filter cartridge according to claim 12 , wherein the z-filter media construction is adhered to the core.
