Detergent products, methods and manufacture
A water-soluble pouch suitable for use in machine dishwashing and which comprises a plurality of compartments in generally superposed or superposable relationship, each containing one or more detergent active or auxiliary components, and wherein the pouch has a volume of from about 5 to about 70 ml and a longitudinal/transverse aspect ratio in the range from about 2:1 to about 1:8, preferably from about 1:1 to about 1:4. The water-soluble pouch allows for optimum delivery of dishwashing detergent. A process for the manufacture of multi-compartment pouches and a pack to contain the pouches are also disclosed.
1. A unit dose machine dishwashing article comprising a water-soluble pouch containing a detergent composition, wherein the water-soluble pouch comprises upper and lower generally opposing outer walls and one or more internal partitioning walls, each of the walls comprising a water-soluble material, the walls forming first and second compartments, wherein the first and second compartments each comprise a portion of the detergent composition, wherein the detergent composition disposed in the first compartment is in the form of a liquid, paste, or gel, wherein the detergent composition disposed in the second compartment is in the form of a powder, wherein the detergent composition comprises a nonionic surfactant at a level of from about 0.2% to about 10% by weight of the detergent composition.
2. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 1 , wherein the first and second compartments are arranged in a generally superposed relationship.
3. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 1 , wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a low cloud point nonionic surfactant.
4. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 1 , wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a high cloud point nonionic surfactant.

The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 1 , wherein the nonionic surfactant is selected from the group consisting of: an alkoxylated surfactant, ethoxylated-propoxylated alcohols, epoxy-capped poly(oxyalkylated) alcohol, ether-capped poly(oxyalkylated) alcohol surfactant, block polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene polymeric compound, and mixtures thereof.
6. A unit dose machine dishwashing article comprising a water-soluble pouch containing a detergent composition, wherein the water-soluble pouch comprises a plurality of compartments in a generally superposed relationship, each compartment containing one or more detergent active or auxiliary components that form the detergent composition, wherein the detergent composition comprises a nonionic surfactant at a level of from about 0.2% to about 10% by weight of the detergent composition.
7. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 6 , wherein the one or more detergent active or auxiliary components in a first compartment is in the form of a liquid, paste, or gel.
8. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 7 , wherein the nonionic surfactant of the detergent composition is disposed in the first compartment.
9. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 6 , wherein the one or more detergent active or auxiliary components in a second compartment is in the form of a powder or densified powder.
10. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 6 , wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a low cloud point nonionic surfactant.
11. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 6 , wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a high cloud point nonionic surfactant.
12. A unit dose machine dishwashing article comprising a water-soluble pouch containing a detergent composition, wherein the water-soluble pouch comprises at least one compartment, wherein the at least one compartment comprises at least a portion of the detergent composition, wherein the detergent composition in the at least one compartment is in the form of a liquid, paste, or gel, wherein the detergent composition comprises a nonionic surfactant at a level of from about 0.2% to about 10% by weight of the detergent composition.
13. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 12 , wherein the at least one compartment is a first compartment, the water-soluble pouch comprising a second compartment, wherein the second compartment comprises at least a portion of the detergent composition.
14. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 13 , wherein the detergent composition in the second compartment is in the form of a powder.
15. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 12 , wherein the first and second compartments are arranged in a generally superposed relationship.
16. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 12 , wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a low cloud point nonionic surfactant.
17. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 12 , wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a high cloud point nonionic surfactant.
18. The unit dose machine dishwashing article of claim 12 , wherein the nonionic surfactant is selected from the group consisting of: an alkoxylated surfactant, ethoxylated-propoxylated alcohols, epoxy-capped poly(oxyalkylated) alcohol, ether-capped poly(oxyalkylated) alcohol surfactant, block polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene polymeric compound, and mixtures thereof.
