Abstract

An ultra-wideband assembly is provided. The assembly includes a non-conductive tapered core having a conductive wire wound on an outer surface of the non-conductive tapered core, a low-frequency inductor coupled to the non-conductive tapered core via the distal end of the conductive wire and configured to allow mounting of the non-conductive tapered core at an angle with respect to the circuit board. The low frequency inductor is being disposed on a dielectric board configured to be coupled to the circuit board. The assembly includes an ultra-wideband capacitor coupled to the non-conductive tapered core via the proximate end of the conductive wire, the ultra-wideband capacitor being also coupled to the transmission line on the dielectric board.

Claims (30)

1. A capacitor assembly for an electrical circuit having a transmission line and an ultra-wideband assembly, the capacitor assembly comprising

a capacitor;

a dielectric board;

said capacitor is configured to be mounted to said dielectric board using a low-loss, high-temperature epoxy;

an air space created between said capacitor and said dielectric board when said capacitor is mounted to said dielectric board;

said capacitor is configured to be coupled to the transmission line;

wherein the capacitor assembly is configured to minimize perturbation of an electric field of the transmission line;

wherein the ultra-wideband assembly being coupled to the capacitor assembly and including a non-conductive tapered core having a conductive wire having a proximate end and a distal end and being wound about at least a portion of said non-conductive tapered core.

2. The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein said capacitor is an ultra-wideband capacitor.

3. The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein said capacitor is directly coupled to the transmission line.

4. The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein said capacitor further comprises capacitor terminal leads configured to be coupled to the transmission line.

5. The assembly according to claim 1 , the ultra-wideband assembly including

the non-conductive tapered core having

an outer surface;

a dielectric being disposed on at least a portion of said outer surface of said non-conductive tapered core;

a distal end; and

a proximate end,

said distal end being larger than proximate end;

said proximate end of said conductive wire extends away from said proximate end of said non-conductive tapered core;

said distal end of said conductive wire extends away from said distal end of said non-conductive tapered core;

said conductive wire contacts at least a portion of said outer surface of said non-conductive tapered core.

6. The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein the capacitor in the capacitor assembly is being coupled to said non-conductive tapered core via said proximate end of said conductive wire.

7. The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein said non-conductive tapered core has at least one of the following shapes: a tetrahedron shape, a triangular pyramid shape, and a multi-dimensional polygonal shape.

8. The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein said non-conductive tapered core is composed of powdered iron.

9. The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein said dielectric is disposed at said proximate end of said non-conductive tapered core.

10. The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein said dielectric is disposed along at least one tapering side of said non-conductive tapered core.

11. The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein said tapered non-conductive tapered core has a tapering angle, wherein said tapering angle is in a range of less than 10 degrees to greater than 25 degrees.

12. The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein the ultra-wideband assembly is configured to reduce insertion loss in a frequency range from below 10 KHz to over 100 GHz.

13. The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein the ultra-wideband assembly have a value in the range from 2 microhenries (“μH”) to about 20 μH.

14. The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein said non-conductive tapered core is positioned at an angle with respect to the transmission line.
