1. A method of making a sulfur-oxidation catalyst, comprising:
impregnating a catalyst comprising platinum with an aqueous ferric nitrate solution having an iron concentration of 10 w/v %;
removing excess liquid from the catalyst;
drying the catalyst;
calcining the catalyst.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst is dried at 130° C.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst is calcined at 400° C.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst is dried at 130° C. and calcined at 400° C.
5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the steps of impregnating, removing, drying and calcining produces an iron concentration of 1% to 30% by weight.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the steps of impregnating, removing, drying and calcining produces an iron concentration of 2% to 10% by weight.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the steps of impregnating, removing, drying and calcining produces an iron concentration of 3% to 7% by weight.
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the steps of impregnating, removing, drying and calcining produces an iron concentration of 4% to 6% by weight.
9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising placing the catalyst upstream of a sulfur-oxide trap.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the catalyst is dried at 130° C. and calcined at 400° C.
11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the steps of impregnating, removing, drying and calcining produces an iron concentration of 1% to 30% by weight.
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the steps of impregnating, removing, drying and calcining produces an iron concentration of 2% to 10% by weight.
13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the steps of impregnating, removing, drying and calcining produces an iron concentration of 3% to 7% by weight.
