Abstract

An asphalt additive comprising a primary rheology modifying component and a secondary rheology modifying component, and asphalt compositions and products having such additive incorporated therein. The primary rheology modifying component is generally a polymer, and the secondary rheology modifying component may comprise a petroleum micro-wax.

5. The asphalt of claim 1 , comprising in the range of 0.025-2.0% wax, in the range of about 0.05-10% polypropylene homopolymer, in the range of about 0.1-5% glycidyl function polymer, in the range of about 2-30% ground tire rubber, and in the range of about 65-98% asphalt, based on the weights of those five components.

6. The asphalt of claim 1 , comprising in the range of about 0.05-0.10% wax, in the range of about 0.1-4% polypropylene homopolymer, in the range of about 0.2-2% glycidyl function polymer, in the range of about 5-15% ground tire rubber and in the range of about 85-95%, based on the weights of those five components.

7. A modified asphalt that is a product of:

preparing an additive comprising wax, polypropylene homopolymer, and glycidyl functional polymer;

preparing a first concentrate comprising the additive and a first asphalt portion;

preparing a second concentrate of ground tire rubber and second asphalt portion, wherein the first asphalt portion and the second asphalt portion may be the same or different types of asphalts; and,

combining the concentrates to form the modified asphalt.

8. The modified asphalt of claim 7 , wherein the wax comprises a polyethylene wax.

9. The modified asphalt of claim 7 , wherein the glycidyl functional polymer comprises glycidyl acrylate functionality.

10. The modified asphalt of claim 7 , wherein the glycidyl functional polymer comprises glycidyl methacrylate functionality.
