Abstract

Exercise equipment, particularly a linear movable structure and associated selectable elastic resistance bands with or without guide track members are designed to allow low-impact exercises for one or two persons at the same time while permitting either or both participants to remain stationary when utilizing the equipment.

Claims (22)

1. An exercise and therapy apparatus comprising: a linearly movable frame having at least two parallel vertical posts, each of said at least two parallel vertical posts having an upper aspect and a lower aspect;

a plurality of fixed wheels attached to said linearly movable frame for exercise movement in a straight line;

at least one elastic resistance member mechanically attached horizontally to respective lower aspects of both of the said at least two parallel vertical posts, said at least one elastic resistance member urging movement of said exercise and therapy apparatus along said straight line when stretched by a stationary user during exercise, wherein the linearly movable frame is configured to engage said stationary user relatively within a portion of the linearly movable frame and thereby permitting forward and reverse linear, reaching and retrieving motions.

2. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 1 wherein the at least one elastic resistance member is a lower elastic resistance member mechanically attached horizontally to the linearly movable frame in front of said stationary user's legs and configured to engage said stationary user's feet or legs in a forward and reverse linear elastic resistance fashion.

3. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 2 wherein the at least one elastic resistance member is comprised of a plurality of elastic bands configured to facilitate selection of different resistance strengths by said stationary user.

4. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 3 wherein the at least one lower elastic resistance member is configured for stretching or bouncing motions of said stationary user's leg.

5. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 1 wherein the at least one elastic resistance member is an upper elastic resistance member, said at least one upper elastic resistance member attached horizontally to both of the said respective upper aspects of said at least two parallel vertical posts of said linearly movable frame in front of said stationary user's torso and configured to engage and resist said stationary user's hands or arms in a forward and reverse linear fashion.

6. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 5 wherein the at least one upper elastic resistance member is configured for stretching, bouncing or gripping motions.

7. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 6 wherein the at least one upper elastic resistance member is comprised of a plurality of elastic resistance straps configured to be selected by said stationary user for variable resistance strength or shared with a second user for multiple user participation.

8. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 1 further comprising at least one track for guiding the apparatus on a fixed linear path on a surface.

9. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 8 wherein said at least one track is a plurality of parallel tracks affixed to a surface between the exercise and therapy apparatus and said surface and configured to guide each of the said plurality of fixed wheels on a fixed linear path.

10. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 8 further comprising a vertical adjustment to incline said at least one track.

11. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a hand gripping member for strengthening said stationary user's hands and facilitating stretching extension of said stationary user's arms.

12. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 11 wherein the hand gripping member is a rotatable or squeezable grip element.

13. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a horizontal support bar attached at each end to opposite sides of the at least two parallel vertical posts of said linearly movable frame and parallel to said lower elastic resistance member and configured for use by a second user to oppose the linear motion of said stationary user.

14. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 1 wherein the plurality of fixed wheels are configured to engage a linear guide track.

15. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 1 wherein each of the plurality of fixed wheels is paired with a second tandem or in-line stabilizing wheel.

16. The exercise and therapy apparatus of claim 1 further comprising arm stretching extension members, said arm stretching extension members comprising measured rods elastically attached to the linearly movable frame for resistance.

17. An exercise apparatus, comprising: a linearly movable frame having at least two parallel vertical posts, each of said at least two parallel vertical posts having an upper aspect and a lower aspect; at least one elastic resistance member mechanically attached horizontally to said respective lower aspects of said at least two parallel vertical posts, said at least one elastic resistance member urging exercise movement of the exercise and therapy apparatus along a straight line when stretched by a stationary user,

wherein the linearly movable frame is configured to engage said stationary user relatively within a portion of the linearly movable frame and thereby permitting forward and reverse motions; and

a linear movement mechanism, said linear movement mechanism selected from the group consisting of a linear guide track, said linear guide track engaging with a bottom of said linearly movable frame; ball bearings set within a linear guide track, said ball bearings engaging with a bottom of said linearly movable frame; low friction glide pads attached to said linearly movable frame, said low friction glide pads engaging a complementary low friction surface of a guide track; and a linear rack gear guide track, said linear rack gear guide track engaging with a pinion gear on said linearly movable frame.

18. A method of exercise or therapy for one or more participants comprising the steps of engaging at least one stationary participant relatively within an exercise and therapy apparatus comprising: a linearly movable frame having at least two parallel vertical posts, each of said at least two parallel vertical posts having an upper aspect and a lower aspect; a plurality of fixed wheels attached to said linearly movable frame for exercise movement in a straight line; at least one elastic resistance member mechanically attached horizontally to respective lower aspects of both of the said at least two parallel vertical posts, said at least one elastic resistance member urging movement of the exercise apparatus along said straight line when stretched by a stationary user during exercise, wherein the linearly movable frame is configured to engage said stationary user relatively within a portion of the linearly movable frame and thereby permitting forward and reverse linear, reaching and retrieving motions; grasping or pushing the at least one elastic resistance member thereby urging movement of the linearly movable frame and simultaneously opposing such motion thereby permitting resisted forward and reverse linear stretching, reaching and retrieving motions.
