Abstract

Oral care compositions comprising a neutral amino acid and stannous ion source are provided for promoting Gum Health of a user.

Claims (35)

1. A composition comprising:

a) from 0.01% to 5%, by weight of the composition, of a stannous ion source; and

b) from 0.01% to 10%, by weight of the composition, of a neutral amino acid, wherein the composition is an oral care composition.

The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the neutral amino acid is selected from the group consisting of alanine, aminobutyrate, asparagine, cysteine, cystine, glutamine, glycine, hydroxyproline, isoleucine, leucine, methionine, phenylalanine, proline, serine, taurine, threonine, tryptophan, tyrosine, valine, and combinations thereof.

The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the stannous ion source comprises stannous chloride, stannous fluoride, stannous acetate, stannous gluconate, stannous oxalate, stannous sulfate, stannous lactate, stannous tartrate, stannous iodide, stannous chlorofluoride, stannous hexafluorozirconate, stannous citrate, stannous malate, stannous glycinate, stannous carbonate, stannous phosphate, stannous pyrophosphate, stannous metaphosphate, or combinations thereof.

The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 0.1% to 5%, by weight of the composition, of a zinc ion source_selected from the group consisting of zinc citrate, zinc chloride, zinc sulfate, zinc gluconate, zinc lactate, zinc phosphate, zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, and combinations thereof.

5. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 0.05% to 4%, by weight of the composition, of a fluoride ion source.

6. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 0.01% to 5%, by weight of the composition, of a thickening agent selected from a thickening polymer, a thickening silica, or a combination thereof.

7. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 1% to 35%, by weight of the composition, of an abrasive selected from a calcium-containing abrasive, a silica abrasive, or a combination thereof.

8. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 1% to 60%, by weight of the composition, of a humectant.

9. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition has a pH of 9.0 or less.

10. The composition according to claim 3 , wherein the composition comprises from 0.1% to 2%, by weight of the composition, of the stannous ion source.

11. The composition according to claim 4 , wherein the zinc ion source is selected from the group consisting of zinc citrate, zinc gluconate, zinc lactate, and combinations thereof.

12. The composition according to claim 5 , wherein the composition comprises from 0.1% to 2%, by weight of the composition, of the fluoride ion source.

13. The composition according to claim 12 , wherein the fluoride ion source comprises sodium fluoride, stannous fluoride, potassium fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate, indium fluoride, amine fluoride, zinc fluoride, or combinations thereof.

14. The composition according to claim 8 , wherein the humectant comprises a polyol selected from sorbitol, glycerin, or a combination thereof.

15. The composition according to claim 9 , wherein the composition has a pH of from 4.0 to 8.5.

16. An oral care composition comprising:

(a) stannous fluoride; and

(b) neutral amino acid.

17. The oral care composition of claim 16 , wherein the neutral amino acid comprises glycine, asparagine, glutamine, or combinations thereof.

18. The oral care composition of claim 17 , wherein the neutral amino acid comprises glycine.

19. The oral care composition of claim 18 , wherein the oral care composition comprises a zinc ion source.

20. The oral care composition of claim 18 , wherein the zinc ion source comprises zinc citrate, zinc chloride, zinc sulfate, zinc gluconate, zinc lactate, zinc phosphate, zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, or combinations thereof.

21. The oral care composition of claim 20 , wherein the oral care composition has a pH of from 4.0 to 8.5.

22. An oral care composition comprising:

(a) stannous chloride; and

(b) neutral amino acid.

23. The oral care composition of claim 22 , wherein the neutral amino acid comprises glycine, asparagine, glutamine, or combinations thereof.

24. The oral care composition of claim 23 , wherein the neutral amino acid comprises glycine.

25. The oral care composition of claim 24 , wherein the oral care composition comprises a fluoride ion source.

26. The oral care composition of claim 25 , wherein the fluoride ion source comprises sodium fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate, amine fluoride, stannous fluoride, or combinations thereof.

27. The oral care composition of claim 26 , wherein the oral care composition comprises a zinc ion source.

28. The oral care composition of claim 27 , wherein the zinc ion source comprises zinc citrate, zinc chloride, zinc sulfate, zinc gluconate, zinc lactate, zinc phosphate, zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, or combinations thereof.

29. The oral care composition of claim 28 , wherein the oral care composition has a pH of from 4.0 to 8.5.
