Abstract

An adapter for a jar for use with a planetary mixer, the adapter securing a dispensing container having a body and a removable cap, the adapter having a central aperture through which a longitudinal axis of the jar passes when the adapter is inside the jar. When the dispensing container is secured to the adapter and the adapter is inside the jar: (i) the adapter maintains the container spaced from an inner wall and from a bottom of the jar; (ii) a gap is provided between a top of the jar and the container; (iii) a point on the cap of the container extends further from the bottom of the jar than does a point on the body of the container; (iv) the body of the container crosses the longitudinal axis of the jar; and (v) the container extends over more than half the diameter of the jar.

Claims (38)

1. In combination:

a jar with a top, an inner wall and a bottom,

a dispensing container having at least a body and a removable cap; and

an adapter for the dispensing container, the adapter having a central aperture through which a longitudinal axis of the jar passes when the adapter is positioned inside the jar, the central aperture being smaller than the removable cap of the dispensing container;

wherein when the dispensing container is secured to the adapter and the adapter is positioned inside the jar: (i) the adapter is configured to maintain the dispensing container spaced from the inner wall of the jar and from the bottom of the jar; (ii) a gap is provided between the top of the jar and the cap of the dispensing container; (iii) a part of the cap of the dispensing container is further from the bottom of the jar than a part of the body of the dispensing container; (iv) the body of the dispensing container crosses the longitudinal axis of the jar; and (v) the dispensing container extends over more than half a width of the jar, and

wherein the inner wall of the jar is tapered and wherein the inner wall and the adapter are configured such that the distance between the adapter and the inner wall varies as the adapter extends further into the jar.

2. The combination defined in claim 1 , wherein a diameter of the inner wall is tapered between the top of the jar and the bottom of the jar.

3. The combination defined in claim 1 , further comprising a lid mounted to the top of the jar.

4. The combination defined in claim 1 , the adapter further comprising a plurality of additional apertures at least partly surrounding the central aperture.

5. The combination defined in claim 1 , wherein a part of the dispensing container is further away from the bottom of the jar in a direction along the longitudinal axis of the jar than a part of the adapter.

6. The combination defined in claim 1 , wherein a point on the cap of the dispensing container extends further away from the bottom of the jar in a direction along the longitudinal axis of the jar than does any point on the adapter.

7. The combination defined in claim 6 , wherein the adapter is configured to clamp the dispensing container.

8. The combination defined in claim 7 , wherein the dispensing container further comprises a cover mounted to the body and to which the removable cap is mounted.

9. The combination defined in claim 8 , wherein the adapter includes a band of material extending circumferentially around the longitudinal axis of the jar.

10. The combination defined in claim 9 , wherein to clamp the dispensing container, the adapter is configured to clamp the cap of the dispensing container.

11. The combination defined in claim 1 , wherein the lid is a screw-on lid.

12. The combination defined in claim 1 , the body of the dispensing container being elongated along a central axis and configured to have a height-to-base ratio (HBR) between 0.75 and 1.5 at half volume and a greater HBR than the jar for the same total volume, when measured with the central axis of the dispensing container parallel to the longitudinal axis of the jar.

13. The combination defined in claim 1 , wherein the adapter is in contact with a bottom wall of the jar.

14. The combination defined in claim 13 , wherein the adapter is in contact with the inner wall of the jar.

15. A planetary mixer comprising a motor for subjecting a holder to superimposed rotation and revolution movements, the holder holding a jar containing a dispensing container secured to an adapter, the jar having a top, an inner wall and a bottom, the dispensing container having at least a body and a removable cap; and

the adapter having a central aperture through which a longitudinal axis of the jar passes when the adapter is positioned inside the jar, the central aperture being smaller than the removable cap of the dispensing container; wherein (i) the adapter is configured to maintain the dispensing container spaced from the inner wall of the jar and from the bottom of the jar; (ii) a gap is provided between the top of the jar and the cap of the dispensing container; (iii) a part of the cap of the dispensing container is further from the bottom of the jar than a part of the body of the dispensing container; (iv) the body of the dispensing container crosses the longitudinal axis of the jar; and (v) the dispensing container extends over more than half the diameter of the jar, and

wherein the inner wall of the jar is tapered and wherein the inner wall and the adapter are configured such that the distance between the adapter and the inner wall varies as the adapter extends further into the jar.

16. The planetary mixer defined in claim 15 , wherein the adapter is configured to clamp the dispensing container.

17. The planetary mixer defined in claim 16 , the body of the dispensing container being elongated along a central axis and configured to have a height-to-base ratio (HBR) between 0.75 and 1.5 at half volume and a greater HBR than the jar for the same total volume, when measured with the central axis of the dispensing container parallel to the longitudinal axis of the jar.

18. The planetary mixer defined in claim 17 , wherein to clamp onto the dispensing container, the adapter is configured to clamp onto the cap of the dispensing container.

19. A container assembly for use with a planetary mixer, comprising (i) a jar with an inner wall, (ii) an adapter in contact with the inner wall of the jar, the adapter including a central aperture, (iii) a dispensing container having at least a body and a removable cap, the central aperture being smaller than the removable cap of the dispensing container and (iv) a lid attachable to a rim of the jar,

wherein the adapter is configured to clamp onto the dispensing container,

wherein the inner wall of the jar is tapered and wherein the inner wall and the adapter are configured such that the distance between the adapter and the inner wall varies as the adapter extends further into the jar.

20. The container assembly defined in claim 19 , wherein the inner wall is tapered between a top of the jar and a bottom of the jar.

21. The container assembly defined in claim 19 , wherein the adapter is further configured to maintain the dispensing container spaced from the inner wall of the jar.
