Abstract

An interchangeable display system and method is provided. A first and second side assembly are each selected from a number of: digital side assemblies each comprising an electronic display, static side assemblies each comprising a poster cavity which accepts signage, and cover side assemblies. The first and second side assemblies are interchangeably mounted to a frame. When one of the side assemblies is in need of replacement, it is removed from the frame and a replacement is installed.

Claims (71)

1. A system for interchangeable displays, said system comprising:

a number of digital side assemblies, each comprising an electronic display;

a number of static side assemblies, each comprising a poster cavity configured to accept signage;

a number of cover side assemblies;

a first side assembly that is selected to be only one from a group consisting of: one of the digital side assemblies, one of the static side assemblies, and one of the cover side assemblies;

a second side assembly that is selected to be only one from a group consisting of: one of the digital side assemblies, one of the static side assemblies, and one of the cover side assemblies; and

a frame configured to interchangeably accept the first and second side assembly.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the first side assembly is of the same or a different type from the second side assembly.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein:

said frame is configured to accept said first and second side assemblies in a back to back arrangement.

4. The system of claim 1 further comprising:

a closed loop pathway for circulating gas; and

an open loop pathway for ambient air.

5. The system of claim 4 further comprising:

a channel located within at least one of said first side assembly and said second side assembly, wherein said channel is configured to accept said ambient air and forms at least a portion of said open loop pathway;

a cavity located between said frame and said first and second side assemblies, wherein said cavity is configured to accept said circulating gas and forms at least a portion of said closed loop pathway; and

a second channel located within at least one of said first side assembly and said second side assembly, wherein said second channel is configured to accept said circulating gas and forms at least a portion of said closed loop pathway.

6. The system of claim 5 further comprising:

an electronics plate extending from said frame, spaced apart from the first and second side assemblies, and positioned within the cavity, wherein said electronics plate is configured to receive a plurality of electronic components.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein:

said first and second side assembly are mounted to said frame in a moveable fashion.

8. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the frame is configured to be installed on a sidewalk.

9. A method interchanging a display system comprising the steps of:

providing a number of digital side assemblies, a number of static side assemblies, and a number of cover side assemblies, wherein each of said digital side assemblies comprise at least one electronic display, and wherein each of said static side assemblies comprise at least one poster cavity configured to accept signage;

selecting a first side assembly that is selected to be only one from a group consisting of: one of the digital side assemblies, one of the static side assemblies, and one of the cover side assemblies;

selecting a second side assembly that is selected to be only one from a group consisting of: one of the digital side assemblies, one of the static side assemblies, and one of the cover side assemblies;

providing a frame configured to interchangeably accept the first side assembly and the second side assembly;

mounting said first side assembly to a first portion of said frame; and mounting said second side assembly to a second portion of said frame.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein:

said first side assembly is mounted to said first portion of said frame in a moveable fashion; and

said second side assembly is mounted to said second portion of said frame in a moveable fashion.

11. The method of claim 9 further comprising the steps of:

installing the frame at a location.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein:

said location comprises a sidewalk.

13. The method of claim 11 further comprising the steps of:

determining that one of the first and second side assemblies is in need of servicing;

providing a replacement side assembly of a same type as the one of the first and second side assemblies in need of servicing;

removing the one of the first and second side assemblies in need of servicing from the frame; and

mounting the replacement side assembly to the frame.

14. The method of claim 13 further comprising the steps of:

servicing the removed one of the first and second side assemblies in need of servicing.

15. The method of claim 11 further comprising the steps of:

receiving a request to replace one of the first and second side assemblies with a replacement side assembly of a desired type, wherein the desired type is different from a type of the one of the first and second side assemblies that is mounted to the frame;

providing the replacement side assembly of the desired type;

removing the one of the first and second side assemblies from the frame; and

mounting the replacement side assembly to the frame.

16. The method of claim 11 further comprising the steps of:

providing an electronics plate extending from said frame, substantially parallel with and spaced apart from the first and second side assemblies;

mounting electronic components to said electronics plate;

moving one of said first and second side assemblies to an opened position away from said frame;

replacing one or more of the electronic components; and

moving said one of said first and second side assemblies to a closed position proximate to said frame.

17. A method for providing an interchangeable display comprising the steps of:

providing a frame configured to interchangeably accept a first and second side assembly in a moveable manner, wherein said first and second side assembly are mounted to opposing sides of said frame;

providing a number of digital side assemblies, a number of static side assemblies, and a number of cover side assemblies;

initially selecting said first assembly that is selected to be only one from a group consisting of: one of the digital side assemblies, one of the static side assemblies, and one of the cover side assemblies;

initially selecting said second assembly that is selected to be only one from a group consisting of: one of the digital side assemblies, one of the static side assemblies, and one of the cover side assemblies;

installing the frame at a customer site;

mounting said first side assembly to a first side of said frame;

mounting said second side assembly to an opposing side of said frame;

receiving a request to replace a particular one of the first and second side assemblies with a replacement side assembly of a desired type;

providing the replacement side assembly of the desired type from remaining ones of the digital side assemblies, the static side assemblies, and the cover side assemblies;

removing the particular one of the first and second side assemblies from the frame; and

mounting the replacement side assembly to the frame.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein:

the desired type is a same type as the particular one of the first and second side assemblies.

19. The method of claim 17 wherein:

the desired type is a different type from the particular one of the first and second side assemblies.
