Abstract

Flavonoid compositions containing the flavonoid quercetin and/or derivatives of quercetin are disclosed. The flavonoid compositions are formulated to improve the bioavailability of quercetin. Also provided herein are methods for improving athletic performance, improving cardiovascular health, and aiding in immune response and methods of improving athletic performance, improving bone health, preventing fatigue, reducing recovery time after exercise, countering oxidative stress, and/or boosting energy.

Claims (53)

1. A flavonoid composition, comprising:

quercetin, the quercetin selected from the group consisting of aglycone quercetin, quercetin glycoside, and isoquercetin, the quercetin present in an amount of 7.9% (w/w);

green tea extract present in an amount of 13.6% (w/w);

blueberry anthocyanidins comprising blueberry extract present in an amount of 33.9% (w/w);

caffeine present in an amount of 7.9% (w/w);

omega 3 powder present in an amount of 15.1% (w/w);

vitamin C present in an amount of 12.6% (w/w); and

ascorbyl palmitate present in an amount of 9.0% (w/w),

wherein the flavonoid composition is formulated as a powder.

2. The flavonoid composition of claim 1 , wherein the omega 3 powder comprises docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

3. The flavonoid composition of claim 1 , wherein the powder is in the form of a shake mix or formulated to be mixed with a liquid.

4. The flavonoid composition of claim 1 , wherein the flavonoid composition is formulated for consumption in a single serving package.

5. The flavonoid composition of claim 1 , wherein the flavonoid composition is packaged as a bulk product.

The flavonoid composition of claim 1 , further comprising a bioavailability enhancing agent selected from the group consisting of a charge masking compound, a solubilizing compound, a reducing compound, a stabilizing compound, a lubricating compound, an enteric coating, and a permeability enhancing compound.

The flavonoid composition of claim 1 , further comprising a flavonoid selected from the list consisting of kaempferol, myricetin, isorhamnetin, luteolin, apigenin, hesperetin, naringenin, eriodictyol, catechins, epigallocatechins, theaflavins, cyaniding, delphinidin, malvidin, pelargonidin, peonidin, petunidin, daidzein, genistein, and glycitein.

8. An oral ingestible medicament for increasing bioavailability of a flavonoid, the medicament comprising:

a flavonoid present in an amount of about 7.9% to about 16% (w/w);

an antioxidant;

an anthocyanidin;

a stimulant;

a lipid;

ascorbic acid;

an omega 3 powder; and

ascorbyl palmitate,

wherein the oral ingestible medicament is formulated as a powder, and

wherein the bioavailability of the flavonoid is increased.

9. The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , wherein the flavonoid is present in an amount ranging from about 10-500 mg.

10. The oral ingestible medicament of claim 9 , wherein the flavonoid is present in an amount of about 100 mg.

11. The oral ingestible medicament of claim 9 , wherein the flavonoid is present in an amount of about 52 mg.

The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , wherein flavonoid is present in an amount of about 10-500 mg; the antioxidant is present in an amount of about 10-500 mg; the anthocyanidins is present in an amount of about 10-500 mg; the stimulant is present in an amount of about 10-500 mg; the lipid is present in an amount of about 10-500 mg; ascorbic acid is present in an amount of about 10-500 mg; the omega 3 powder is present in an amount of about 10-500 mg; and the ascorbyl palmitate is present in an amount of about 10-500 mg.

The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , wherein the flavonoid is present in an amount of about 52 mg; the antioxidant is present in an amount of about 90 mg; the anthocyanidin is present in an amount of about 225 mg; the stimulant is present in an amount of about 52 mg; the lipid is present in an amount of about 100 mg; ascorbic acid is present in an amount of about 50 mg; the omega 3 powder is present in an amount of about 100 mg; and ascorbyl palmitate is present in an amount of about 60 mg.

14. The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , wherein the omega 3 powder comprises docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

15. The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , wherein the powder is in the form of a shake mix or formulated to be mixed with a liquid.

16. The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , wherein the flavonoid composition is formulated for consumption in a single serving package.

17. The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , wherein the flavonoid composition is packaged as a bulk product.

18. The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , further comprising a bioavailability enhancing agent selected from the group consisting of a charge masking compound, a solubilizing compound, a reducing compound, a stabilizing compound, a lubricating compound, an enteric coating, and a permeability enhancing compound.

The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , wherein the flavonoid is quercetin or a derivative thereof, kaempferol, myricetin, isorhamnetin, luteolin, apigenin, hesperetin, naringenin, eriodictyol, catechins, epigallocatechins, theaflavins, cyaniding, delphinidin, malvidin, pelargonidin, peonidin, petunidin, daidzein, genistein, or glycitein.

20. The flavonoid composition of claim 1 , further comprising a preservative.

21. The oral ingestible medicament of claim 8 , further comprising a preservative.

22. A flavonoid composition, comprising:

quercetin, the quercetin selected from the group consisting of aglycone quercetin, quercetin glycoside, and isoquercetin, the quercetin present in an amount of about 7.9% to about 16% (w/w);

green tea extract;

blueberry anthocyanidins;

caffeine;

omega 3 powder; and

a bioavailability enhancing agent selected from the group consisting of a charge masking compound, a solubilizing compound, a reducing compound, a stabilizing compound, a lubricating compound, an enteric coating, and a permeability enhancing compound,

wherein the flavonoid composition is formulated as a powder.

The flavonoid composition of claim 22 , wherein the quercetin is present in an amount of 7.9% (w/w); wherein the green tea extract is present in an amount of 13.6% (w/w); wherein the blueberry anthocyanidins comprise blueberry extract present in an amount of 33.9% (w/w); wherein caffeine is present in an amount of 7.9% (w/w); wherein the omega 3 powder is present in an amount of 15.1% (w/w); and further comprising vitamin C present in an amount of 12.6% (w/w) and ascorbyl palmitate present in an amount of 9.0% (w/w).

24. The flavonoid composition of claim 22 , wherein the omega 3 powder comprises docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

25. The flavonoid composition of claim 22 , wherein the powder is in the form of a shake mix or formulated to be mixed with a liquid.

26. The flavonoid composition of claim 22 , wherein the flavonoid composition is formulated for consumption in a single serving package.

27. The flavonoid composition of claim 22 , wherein the flavonoid composition is packaged as a bulk product.

28. The flavonoid composition of claim 22 , further comprising a flavonoid selected from the list consisting of kaempferol, myricetin, isorhamnetin, luteolin, apigenin, hesperetin, naringenin, eriodictyol, catechins, epigallocatechins, theaflavins, cyaniding, delphinidin, malvidin, pelargonidin, peonidin, petunidin, daidzein, genistein, and glycitein.
