Abstract

A computer system is provided. The computer system includes a hub board, a common bus, and a plurality of Sibling boards. The hub board has an I/O controller hub, which includes a main communication chipset. The plurality of Sibling boards is coupled to the hub board by the common bus. Each of the Sibling boards includes a memory and at least one CPU. The memory is operative to host a Sibling operating system. The CPU is coupled to the memory. The Southbridge type chipset which resides in the hub board is shared amongst the plurality of Sibling boards. At least one of the plurality of Sibling boards functions as a master processing unit of the system. Sibling boards offer processing flexibility through the means of how they are configured in the system.

Claims (20)

1. A computer gaming system comprising:

a bus;

a hub portion coupled to the bus, the hub portion comprising an input/output controller that is configured to communicate with one or more periphery component devices; and

a main board comprising one or more component units, each component unit being in direct communication with the bus and one or more of the other component units residing on the main board, each component unit residing on the main board is configurable to operate as a computerized node that comprises a controller and memory, wherein the controller comprises a central processing unit (CPU) and a memory controller, wherein each component unit is configured to operate at least as a CPU system-on-a-chip (CPU/SOC), a graphical processing unit (GPU), a network component, a solid state drive (SSD), or a specific application component, wherein the controller comprises an embedded application compute kernel to pre-fetch data, wherein the controller utilizes one or more of the component units coupled in series for staging prefetching operations;

wherein each component unit is capable of hosting an operating system that is different from another operating system that is being hosted by another of the component units, or, hosting an operating system that is being used by at least another of the component units, each component unit having a dedicated physical resource for the operating system hosting, each component unit is capable of communicating with the hub portion using the bus, and, each component unit is capable of communicating with each of the other units included in the component units.

2. The computer gaming system of claim 1 , wherein one or more of components units comprises a field programmable gate array, a GPU or an ASIC.

3. The computer gaming system of claim 1 , wherein direct memory access (DMA) is utilized to communicate through the bus.

4. The computer gaming system of claim 1 , wherein prefetching employs compression, encryption, or hashing.

5. The computer gaming system of claim 1 , wherein prefetching occurs can in the SSD and involves the CPU/SOC.

6. The computer gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the memory controller is configured to connect to a storage device external to the gaming system.

7. A computer gaming system comprising:

a bus;

a hub portion coupled to the bus, the hub portion comprising an input/output controller that is configured to communicate with one or more periphery component devices; and

a main board comprising one or more component units, each component unit being in direct communication with the bus and one or more of the other component units residing on the main board, each component unit residing on the main board is configurable to operate as a computerized node that comprises a controller and memory, wherein the controller comprises a central processing unit (CPU) and a memory controller, wherein each component unit is configured to operate at least as a CPU system-on-a-chip (CPU/SOC), a graphical processing unit (GPU), a network component, a solid state drive (SSD), or a specific application component, wherein the controller comprises an embedded application compute kernel to pre-fetch data, wherein the controller utilizes one or more of the component units coupled in parallel for staging prefetching operations;

wherein each component unit is capable of hosting an operating system that is different from another operating system that is being hosted by another of the component units, or, hosting an operating system that is being used by at least another of the component units, each component unit having a dedicated physical resource for the operating system hosting, each component unit is capable of communicating with the hub portion using the bus, and, each component unit is capable of communicating with each of the other units included in the component units.

8. The computer gaming system of claim 7 , wherein one or more of components units comprises a field programmable gate array, a GPU or an ASIC.

9. The computer gaming system of claim 7 , wherein direct memory access (DMA) is utilized to communicate through the bus.

10. The computer gaming system of claim 7 , wherein prefetching employs compression, encryption, or hashing.

11. The computer gaming system of claim 7 , wherein prefetching occurs can in the SSD and involves the CPU/SOC.

12. The computer gaming system of claim 7 , wherein the memory controller is configured to connect to a storage device external to the gaming system.
