Abstract

An analyte sensor comprising: a non-conductive material; a conductive material disposed on the non-conductive material; and at least two sensing structures defined by a removed portion of the conductive material, the at least two sensing structures comprising a reagent composition.

Claims (32)

1. An in vivo analyte sensor, comprising:

an electrode comprising a conductive material; and

a plurality of sensing structures on the electrode, wherein each of the plurality of sensing structures comprises:

a region of the conductive material having a fluid barrier arranged along at least a portion of a perimeter of the region, and

a reagent composition disposed on the region,

wherein the fluid barrier comprises a build-up of material on a surface of the electrode.

2. The analyte sensor of claim 1 , wherein the fluid barrier extends along at least 50% of the perimeter of a sensing structure of the plurality of sensing structures.

3. The analyte sensor of claim 1 , wherein the fluid barrier extends along an entirety of the perimeter of a sensing structure of the plurality of sensing structures.

4. The analyte sensor of claim 1 , wherein the fluid barrier is discontinuous about the perimeter of a sensing structure of the plurality of sensing structures.

5. The analyte sensor of claim 1 , wherein the conductive material is arranged on a non-conductive material.

6. The analyte sensor of claim 1 , wherein the reagent composition comprises an analyte-responsive enzyme.

7. The analyte sensor of claim 1 , wherein the reagent composition is uniformly distributed on a sensing structure of the plurality of sensing structures.

8. The analyte sensor of claim 1 , wherein the electrode is a working electrode, and wherein the analyte sensor further comprises a counter electrode.

9. The analyte sensor of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of sensing structures comprises a first sensing structure spaced from a second sensing structure by an inter-sensing area.

10. The analyte sensor of claim 9 , wherein the inter-sensing area does not include the reagent composition.

11. A method, comprising:

determining a level of an analyte in a bodily fluid from signals generated by an in vivo analyte sensor, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor comprises:

an electrode comprising a conductive material and a plurality of sensing structures on the electrode, wherein each of the plurality of sensing structures comprises:

a region of the conductive material having a fluid barrier arranged along at least a portion of a perimeter of the region, and

a reagent composition disposed on the region,

wherein the fluid barrier comprises a build-up of material on a surface of the electrode.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising placing the analyte sensor in contact with the bodily fluid under a skin surface of a user.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the analyte sensor is factory calibrated.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the reagent composition comprises an analyte responsive enzyme.

15. A method of manufacturing an electrode for an in vivo analyte sensor, the method comprising:

forming a plurality of sensing structures on a conductive material of the electrode, wherein forming each of the plurality of sensing structure comprises:

forming a fluid barrier at least partially surrounding a region of a conductive material of an electrode; and

depositing a reagent composition on the region at least partially surrounded by the fluid barrier,

wherein forming the fluid barrier comprises depositing a material on a surface of the conductive material of the electrode.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising arranging the conductive material on a non-conductive material.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising conditioning a surface of the non-conductive material prior to arranging the conductive material on the non-conductive material.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein depositing the reagent composition on the region is performed prior to forming the fluid barrier at least partially surrounding the region.
