Abstract

A video endoscope including an operating handle; an insertion tube extending distally from the operating handle; a camera at the distal end of the insertion tube; a working channel extending from the housing to the distal end of the insertion tube; and control cables; the operating handle including: a housing; a control lever comprising a wall and trunnions extending laterally from the wall; a first wall comprising a first support aperture; a second wall comprising a second support aperture, the first support aperture and the second support aperture receiving the trunnions to facilitate rotation of the control lever; a sealed compartment; and lateral grooves configured to receive guiding cables.

Claims (59)

1. An endoscope comprising:

an operating handle comprising a housing having an inner surface and an inner compartment;

an insertion tube extending distally from the housing and having a distal end;

a camera at the distal end of the insertion tube;

a working channel extending from the housing to the distal end of the insertion tube; and

control cables;

a control lever comprising a wall and trunnions extending laterally from the wall;

a first wall comprising a first support bearing and a control lever immobilization aperture configured to receive a tool and thereby immobilize the control lever in a neutral position during attachment of the control cables to the control lever;

a second wall comprising a second support bearing, the first support bearing and the second support bearing receiving the trunnions to facilitate rotation of the control lever; and

a sealed compartment in the inner compartment;

electronic circuitry enclosed in the sealed compartment; and

grooves configured to support the control cables in the inner compartment.

2. The endoscope of claim 1 , wherein the sealed compartment comprises a mounting plate and a cover connected to the mounting plate.

3. The endoscope of claim 2 , wherein the mounting plate is configured to carry said electronic circuitry.

4. The endoscope of claim 1 , wherein the first support bearing and the second support bearing comprise, respectively, first and second apertures.

The video endoscope of claim 1 , wherein the operating handle comprises the control lever, the structure, the sealed compartment, the electronic circuitry, a T-joint with a connector mounted in the housing distally of the control lever, the T-joint comprising a portion of the working channel and the connector configured to establish fluid communication between a hose providing suction or irrigation and a distal end of the working channel through the T-joint.

6. The video endoscope of claim 5 , wherein the shell structure further comprises a cross-shaped aperture and a rectangular aperture separated from the cross-shaped aperture by a bridge, one of the grooves formed by the bridge.

The video endoscope of claim 1 , wherein the operating handle comprises the control lever, the structure, the sealed compartment, the electronic circuitry, a T-joint with a connector mounted in the housing distally of the control lever, and a flexible hose forming part of the working channel and connected to the T-joint proximally of the T-joint, the T-joint comprising a portion of the working channel and the connector configured to establish fluid communication between a hose providing suction or irrigation and a distal end of the working channel through the T-joint, wherein the structure further comprises a cross-shaped aperture and a rectangular aperture separated from the cross-shaped aperture by a bridge, one of the grooves formed by the bridge.

The video endoscope of claim 1 , wherein the video endoscope further comprises a shell structure having an outer surface and an inner surface and being positioned in the housing with the outer surface facing the inner surface of the housing, the shell structure comprising the first wall and the second wall.

9. A video endoscope comprising:

an operating handle comprising a housing having an inner surface and an inner compartment;

an insertion tube extending distally from the housing and having a distal end;

a camera at the distal end of the insertion tube;

a working channel extending from the housing to the distal end of the insertion tube;

control cables;

a control lever comprising a wall and trunnions extending laterally from the wall;

a first wall comprising a first support bearing;

a second wall comprising a second support bearing, the first support bearing and the second support bearing receiving the trunnions to facilitate rotation of the control lever;

a sealed compartment in the inner compartment;

electronic circuitry enclosed in the sealed compartment;

grooves configured to support the control cables in the inner compartment; and

a shell structure having an outer surface and an inner surface and being positioned in the housing with the outer surface facing the inner surface of the housing, the shell structure comprising the first wall and the second wall.

10. The video endoscope of claim 9 , wherein the first wall comprises a control lever immobilization aperture configured to receive a tool and thereby immobilize the control lever in a neutral position during attachment of the control cables to the control lever.

11. The video endoscope of claim 9 , wherein the shell structure comprises the grooves, and wherein the grooves are configured to support the control cables between the outer surface of the shell structure and the inner surface of the housing.

The video endoscope of claim 9 , wherein the shell structure comprises a cross-shaped aperture establishing fluid communication between the inner surface and the outer surface thereof, the cross-shaped aperture providing access from the outer surface to the inner compartment to facilitate assembly of the endoscope.

13. The video endoscope of claim 9 , wherein the shell structure comprises a cross-shaped aperture and a rectangular aperture separated from the cross-shaped aperture by a bridge, one of the grooves formed by the bridge.

14. The video endoscope of claim 9 , wherein the first wall comprises a control lever immobilization aperture configured to receive a tool and thereby immobilize the control lever in a neutral position during attachment of the control cables to the control lever.

15. A video endoscope comprising:

an operating handle comprising a housing having an inner surface and an inner compartment;

an insertion tube extending distally from the housing and having a distal end;

a camera at the distal end of the insertion tube;

a working channel extending from the housing to the distal end of the insertion tube;

control cables:

a control lever comprising a wall and trunnions extending laterallcassisy from the wall;

a first wall comprising a first support bearing;

a second wall comprising a second support bearing, the first support bearing and the second support bearing receiving the trunnions to facilitate rotation of the control lever;

a sealed compartment in the inner compartment, the sealed compartment comprising a mounting plate and a cover connected to the mounting plate;

electronic circuitry enclosed in the sealed compartment;

grooves configured to support the control cables in the inner compartment; and

a structure comprising the first wall, the second wall, the mounting plate and the grooves,

wherein the mounting plate is configured to carry said electronic circuitry, and

wherein the first support bearing and the second support bearing comprise, respectively, first and second apertures.

16. The video endoscope of claim 15 , wherein the first wall comprises a control lever immobilization aperture configured to receive a tool and thereby immobilize the control lever in a neutral position during attachment of the control cables to the control lever.

17. The video endoscope of claim 15 , wherein the structure further comprises a cross-shaped aperture and a rectangular aperture separated from the cross-shaped aperture by a bridge, one of the grooves formed by the bridge.

18. The video endoscope of claim 15 , wherein the operating handle comprises the control lever, the structure, the sealed compartment, and the electronic circuitry.

The video endoscope of claim 15 , wherein the operating handle comprises the control lever, the structure, the sealed compartment, the electronic circuitry, a T-joint with a connector mounted in the housing distally of the control lever, the T-joint comprising a portion of the working channel and the connector configured to establish fluid communication between a hose providing suction or irrigation and a distal end of the working channel through the T-joint.

The video endoscope of claim 15 , wherein the operating handle comprises the control lever, the structure, the sealed compartment, the electronic circuitry, a T-joint with a connector mounted in the housing distally of the control lever, and a flexible hose forming part of the working channel and connected to the T-joint proximally of the T-joint, the T-joint comprising a portion of the working channel and the connector configured to establish fluid communication between a hose providing suction or irrigation and a distal end of the working channel through the T-joint.

21. The video endoscope of claim 15 , wherein the structure comprises an outer surface and an inner surface and is positioned in the housing with the outer surface facing the inner surface of the housing.

22. The video endoscope of claim 15 , wherein the first wall comprises a control lever immobilization aperture configured to receive a tool and thereby immobilize the control lever in a neutral position during attachment of the control cables to the control lever.
