Abstract

Methods, devices, and systems for adjusting for air flow temperature changes in an aspirating smoke detector are described herein. In some examples, one or more embodiments include a blower configured to cause air to flow through the aspirating smoke detector, and a controller configured to determine a temperature of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector has changed by a particular amount and adjust a speed of the blower in response to compensate the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector that has changed by the particular amount.

Claims (44)

1. An aspirating smoke detector, comprising:

a blower configured to cause air to flow through the aspirating smoke detector; and

a controller configured to:

determine a temperature of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector has changed by a particular amount;

determine, in response to determining the temperature of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector has changed by the particular amount, a speed to adjust the blower to; and

adjust a speed of the blower to the determined speed.

2. The aspirating smoke detector of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to determine the speed to adjust the blower to using a reference airflow speed.

3. The aspirating smoke detector of claim 2 , wherein the controller is configured to determine the speed to adjust the blower to based on a difference between the reference airflow speed and a speed of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector when it is determined that the temperature of the air has changed by the particular amount.

4. The aspirating smoke detector of claim 1 , wherein the controller comprises a control loop mechanism configured to use feedback to determine the speed to adjust the blower to.

5. The aspirating smoke detector of claim 4 , wherein the control loop mechanism comprises:

a proportional module;

an integral module; and

a derivative module.

6. The aspirating smoke detector of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to, after adjusting the speed of the blower to the determined speed:

determine the temperature of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector has again changed by the particular amount;

determine, in response to determining the temperature of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector has again changed by the particular amount, a different speed to adjust the blower to; and

adjust the speed of the blower to the determined different speed.

7. A method of operating an aspirating smoke detector, comprising:

monitoring, by a controller of the aspirating smoke detector, a temperature of air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector;

determining, by the controller in response to the temperature of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector changing by a particular amount, a speed to adjust a blower of the aspirating smoke detector device to, wherein the speed to adjust the blower to is determined based on:

a reference airflow; and

a difference between the reference airflow and an airflow of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector when it is determined that the temperature of the air has changed by the particular amount; and

adjusting, by the controller, a speed of a blower to the determined speed.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the difference comprises an error value between the reference airflow and the airflow of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector when it is determined that the temperature of the air has changed by the particular amount.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the reference airflow is an initial airflow through the aspirating smoke detector.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the method includes setting the reference airflow during an initialization of the aspirating smoke detector.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein the method includes setting the reference airflow during a setup of the aspirating smoke detector.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein the reference airflow is stored by the controller.

13. The method of claim 7 , wherein the controller is a proportional-integral-derivative controller.

14. A non-transitory computer readable medium having computer readable instructions stored thereon that are executable by a processor to:

determine a temperature of air flowing through an aspirating smoke detector has changed by a particular amount;

determine a speed to adjust a blower of the aspirating smoke detector to in response to determining the temperature of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector has changed by the particular amount, wherein the speed to adjust the blower to is determined based on:

a reference airflow; and

a difference between the reference airflow and an airflow of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector when it is determined that the temperature of the air has changed by the particular amount; and;

adjust a speed of the blower to the determined speed.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to determine the speed to adjust the blower to by applying a correction to the difference between the reference airflow and the airflow of the air flowing through the aspirating smoke detector when it is determined that the temperature of the air has changed by the particular amount.

16. The computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the correction comprises:

a corrective value provided by a proportional module;

a corrective value provided by an integral module; and

a corrective value provided by a derivative module.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the corrective value provided by the proportional module is based on a proportional gain tuning parameter.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the corrective value provided by the integral module is based on an integral gain tuning parameter.

19. The computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the corrective value provided by the derivative module is based on a derivative gain tuning parameter.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the determined speed is a weighted sum of the corrective value provided by the proportional module, the corrective value provided by the integral module, and the corrective value provided by the derivative module.
