Abstract

A method and apparatus for monitoring a surface temperature of eyewear proximate a processor to understand the surface temperature as a function of computer instructions, such as when the computer instructions are modified during software design. A sensor is coupled to the eyewear proximate the processor, such as at a temple of the eyewear including the processor, using one or more layers of tape. A server provides instructions to the processor for execution, such as instructions of an application, which instructions vary the utilization of the processor. A testing device, such as a digital multi-meter, is coupled to the sensor, as well as the server, and displays the surface temperature as a function of the processor utilization. The surface temperature of the eyewear is monitored to ensure the surface temperature does not exceed a temperature threshold.

Claims (25)

1. A testing apparatus, comprising:

eyewear having a processor and a frame supporting an optical assembly;

a sensor coupled to a surface portion of the eyewear proximate to the processor of the eyewear to measure a temperature of the surface portion;

a server configured to provide instructions to the processor; and

a testing device coupled to the surface portion and configured to measure the temperature of the surface portion using the sensor during execution of the instructions by the processor to determine the temperature as a function of the executed instructions, wherein the testing device is configured to determine a utilization of the processor during execution of the instructions, and determine a single process processor utilization of a selected thread during execution of the instructions to determine the temperature.

2. The testing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the testing device is configured to measure a temperature of a printed circuit board (PCB) including the processor during execution of the instructions, and is configured to display the temperature of the surface portion.

3. The testing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the testing device is configured to determine an average processor utilization across all cores at a given moment during execution of the instructions to determine the temperature.

4. The testing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the testing device is configured to determine a total power of the processor during execution of the instructions to determine the temperature.

5. The testing apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a container containing the eyewear and maintaining a constant ambient temperature about the eyewear.

6. A testing apparatus, comprising:

a sensor configured to be coupled to a surface portion of an eyewear proximate to a processor of the eyewear to measure a temperature of the surface portion;

a server configured to provide instructions to the processor; and

a testing device configured to be coupled to the surface portion and configured to measure the temperature of the surface portion using the sensor during execution of the instructions by the processor to determine the temperature as a function of the executed instructions, wherein the testing device is configured to determine a utilization of the processor during execution of the instructions, and determine a single process processor utilization of a selected thread during execution of the instructions to determine the temperature.

7. The testing apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the testing device is configured to measure a temperature of a printed circuit board (PCB) including the processor during execution of the instructions, and is configured to display the temperature of the surface portion.

8. The testing apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the testing device is configured to determine an average processor utilization across all cores at a given moment during execution of the instructions to determine the temperature.

9. The testing apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the testing device is configured to determine a total power of the processor during execution of the instructions to determine the temperature.

10. The testing apparatus of claim 6 , further comprising at least one layer of tape coupling the sensor to the surface portion.

11. A method of testing eyewear having a processor and a frame supporting an optical assembly using a testing device comprising:

a sensor coupled to a surface portion of the eyewear proximate to the processor of the eyewear to measure a temperature of the surface portion; and

a server configured to provide instructions to the processor, the instructions comprising the steps of:

using the testing device to measure the temperature of the surface portion using the sensor during execution of the instructions by the processor; and

measuring the temperature of the surface portion during execution of the instructions by the processor to determine the temperature as a function of the executed instructions, wherein the testing device determines a utilization of the processor during execution of the instructions, and determines a single process processor utilization of a selected thread during execution of the instructions to determine the temperature.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the testing device measures a temperature of a printed circuit board (PCB) including the processor during execution of the instructions, and displays the temperature of the surface portion.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the testing device determines an average processor utilization across all cores at a given moment during execution of the instructions to determine the temperature.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the testing device determines a total power of the processor during execution of the instructions to determine the temperature.
