Abstract

A refrigerator includes a cabinet and a door. The door includes a door body including a door liner, a front plate, a cap decor connected to the door liner and the front plate and having a recessed handle, and an insulator filled between the door liner, the front plate, and the cap decor. The door includes a panel assembly detachably mounted on a front surface of the door body and defining a front surface of the door. The panel assembly includes a panel defining an outer appearance of the front surface of the door and an insertion protrusion protruding backward from the panel and inserted into a front surface of the cap decor when the panel is mounted to restrict the panel assembly. The insertion protrusion extends from the outside of a recessed space of the handle in a direction crossing the recessed space.

Claims (47)

1. A refrigerator comprising:

a cabinet that defines an upper storage space and a lower storage space;

an upper door configured to open and close at least a portion of the upper storage space; and

a lower door disposed below the upper door and configured to open and close at least a portion of the lower storage space, the lower door comprising (i) a door body and (ii) a panel that is detachably mounted on a front surface of the door body and defines a front surface of the lower door,

wherein the panel comprises an upper bent portion that includes an uppermost surface of the panel and that is disposed rearward relative to the front surface of the lower door, the upper bent portion defining at least a part of a bent portion opening,

wherein the door body comprises:

a door liner that defines a rear surface of the lower door,

a front plate disposed forward relative to the door liner,

an upper cap decor that is connected to upper portions of the door liner and the front plate and that defines (i) an external surface of the lower door and (ii) a recessed space recessed downward relative to a top surface of the upper cap decor, the upper cap decor comprising an upper support end that extends forward relative to the recessed space, that defines a part of the external surface of the lower door, and that has a bottom surface configured to contact the uppermost surface of the panel, and

an insulator provided in a space defined by the door liner, the front plate, and the upper cap decor, and

wherein the upper support end comprises an upper restriction rib that protrudes downward from the bottom surface of the upper support end and is inserted into the bent portion opening of the panel.

2. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the upper cap decor further comprises:

a handle groove surface that extends downward from a front end of the top surface of the upper cap decor; and

an upper cap front surface that is disposed forward relative to the handle groove surface and spaced apart from the handle groove surface, and

wherein the recessed space is defined between the handle groove surface and the upper cap front surface.

3. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the upper support end covers at least a portion of the upper bent portion of the panel.

4. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the uppermost surface of the panel is disposed below the top surface of the upper cap decor.

5. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the door body further comprises a lower cap decor that is disposed at a lower portion of the door body and is connected to lower portions of the door liner and the front plate, the lower cap decor being in contact with the insulator.

6. The refrigerator of claim 5 , wherein the lower cap decor comprises a lower support end that protrudes forward and supports a lower end of the panel.

7. The refrigerator of claim 5 , wherein the panel further comprises a lower bent portion that is curved rearward from a lower end of the panel toward the front plate of the door body, and

wherein the lower cap decor comprises a lower support end that protrudes forward and covers a bottom surface of the lower bent portion.

8. The refrigerator of claim 7 , wherein the lower support end of the lower cap decor defines a coupling hole, and

wherein the door body further comprises a coupling member that passes through the coupling hole of the lower cap decor and extends above the lower bent portion of the panel.

9. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the panel is made of metal.

10. A door of an appliance, the door comprising:

a door body configured to open and close a storage space of the appliance; and

a panel that is detachably mounted on a front surface of the door body and defines a front surface of the door,

wherein the door body comprises:

a door liner that defines a rear surface of the door,

a front plate disposed forward relative to the door liner,

an upper cap decor that is disposed between the door liner and the front plate and that defines (i) an external surface of the door and (ii) a recessed space recessed downward relative to a top surface of the upper cap decor, the upper cap decor comprising an upper support end that extends forward toward the panel, that defines a part of the external surface of the door, and that has a bottom surface configured to contact an uppermost surface of the panel, and

an insulator provided in a space defined by the door liner, the front plate, and the upper cap decor,

wherein the uppermost surface of the panel extends rearward to a position below the bottom surface of the upper support end, and

wherein the upper support end comprises an upper restriction rib that protrudes downward from the bottom surface of the upper support end and passes through the uppermost surface of the panel.

11. The door of claim 10 , wherein the uppermost surface of the panel defines at least a part of a bent portion opening that receives the upper restriction rib.

12. The door of claim 10 , wherein the upper cap decor comprises:

a handle groove surface that extends downward from a front end of the top surface of the upper cap decor; and

an upper cap front surface that is disposed forward relative to the handle groove surface and spaced apart from the handle groove surface, and

wherein the recessed space is defined between the handle groove surface and the upper cap front surface.

13. The door of claim 10 , wherein the upper support end covers at least a portion of the uppermost surface of the panel.

14. The door of claim 10 , wherein the uppermost surface of the panel is disposed below the top surface of the upper cap decor.

15. The door of claim 10 , wherein the door body further comprises a lower cap decor that is disposed at a lower portion of the door body and is connected to lower portions of the door liner and the front plate, the lower cap decor being in contact with the insulator.

16. The door of claim 15 , wherein the lower cap decor comprises a lower support end that protrudes forward and supports a lower end of the panel.

17. The door of claim 15 , wherein the panel further comprises a lower bent portion that is curved rearward from a lower end of the panel toward the front plate of the door body, and

wherein the lower cap decor comprises a lower support end that protrudes forward and covers a bottom surface of the lower bent portion.

18. The door of claim 17 , wherein the lower support end of the lower cap decor defines a coupling hole, and

wherein the door body further comprises a coupling member that passes through the coupling hole of the lower cap decor and extends above the lower bent portion of the panel.
