Abstract

Organosilicon quaternary ammonium compounds, their formulations, including powdered and solid formulations, and methods of use to treat infections in humans and animals.

Claims (33)

1. A quaternary ammonium compound of Formula:

or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof,

wherein

a is 3 or 4;

R 1 is C 6 -C 22 alkyl;

R 2 , R 3 , and R 4 are

X 3 is OH or CH 2 OR 7 ;

R 10 , R 11 , and R 12 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, CH 2 OR 7 , C 1 -C 8 alkyl, and C 1 -C 8 hydroxyalkyl;

R 13 is selected from the group consisting of CH 2 OR 7 , C 1 -C 8 alkyl, and C 1 -C 8 hydroxyalkyl;

R 7 is independently at each occurrence selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C 1 -C 8 alkyl;

each R 16 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl;

R 17 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 8 hydroxyalkyl;

X − is a methane sulfonate anion.

2. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 1 , wherein X 3 is OH.

3. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 2 , wherein R 1 is octadecyl and each R 16 is CH 3 .

4. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 3 , wherein R 10 and R 11 are H.

5. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 4 , wherein R 12 is H.

6. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 5 , wherein R 13 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl.

7. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 5 , wherein R 13 is CH 3 .

8. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 7 , wherein a is 4.

9. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 1 , wherein R 13 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl.

10. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 9 , wherein R 12 is H.

11. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 10 , wherein R 10 and R 11 are H.

12. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 11 , wherein R 1 is octadecyl and each R 16 is CH 3 .

13. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 12 , wherein R 13 is CH 3 .

14. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 11 , wherein X 3 is OH.

15. The quaternary ammonium compound of claim 1 of formula:

wherein X − is a methane sulfonate anion.

16. An antimicrobial composition comprising a quaternary ammonium compound of claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

17. The antimicrobial composition according to claim 16 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is selected from the group consisting of alcohol, aqueous solution, and glycerin solution.

18. The antimicrobial composition according to claim 16 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is an aqueous solution.

19. The antimicrobial composition of claim 16 , wherein the composition is suitable for topical delivery.

20. An antimicrobial composition comprising a quaternary ammonium compound of claim 3 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
