Abstract

A method of unloading a structure including a plurality of linear actuators includes extending the plurality of linear actuators to support the structure on the plurality of linear actuators at a first location, retracting the plurality of linear actuators to lower the structure onto one or more crawlers, and sending instructions to the one or more crawlers, receipt of the instructions causing the one or more crawlers to travel across a first surface to carry the structure from the first location to a second location.

Claims (41)

1. A method of unloading a structure comprising (i) a first portion rotatably coupled to a second portion and (ii) a plurality of linear actuators, the method comprising:

rotating the first portion across a first surface and the second portion across the first surface to move the plurality of linear actuators to positions overhanging edges of the first surface;

extending the plurality of linear actuators to support the structure on the plurality of linear actuators at a first location;

retracting the plurality of linear actuators to lower the structure onto one or more crawlers; and

sending instructions to the one or more crawlers, receipt of the instructions causing the one or more crawlers to travel across a second surface to carry the structure from the first location to a second location.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of linear actuators are positioned around an outer perimeter of the structure and wherein the one or more crawlers move between the linear actuators to move under the structure while the plurality of linear actuators are extended.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein extending the plurality of linear actuators causes the structure to be lifted off of the first surface.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising rotating the structure on the second surface to move the linear actuators from above the second surface to positions overhanging edges of the second surface.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein rotating the first portion relative to the second portion comprises operating a winch to pull the first portion and the second portion together.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising extending the plurality of linear actuators a second time to lift the structure off of the one or more crawlers at the second location.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

sending instructions to the one or more crawlers, receipt of the instructions causing the one or more crawlers to travel out from under the structure;

retracting the plurality of linear actuators to lower the structure to an installed height; and

locking the plurality of linear actuators to maintain the structure at the installed height.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein retracting the plurality of linear actuators to lower the structure comprises retracting the linear actuators until the linear actuators no longer support the structure.

9. A method of unloading a structure comprising a plurality of linear actuators, the method comprising:

extending the plurality of linear actuators to support the structure on the plurality of linear actuators at a first location;

retracting the plurality of linear actuators to lower the structure onto one or more crawlers;

sending instructions to the one or more crawlers, receipt of the instructions causing the one or more crawlers to travel across a first surface to carry the structure from the first location to a second location; and

sending instructions to a crawler storage device comprising a ramp, the instructions causing the crawler storage device to operate the ramp to unload the one or more crawlers from the crawler storage device.

10. A method of unloading a structure comprising a plurality of linear actuators onto a first surface, the method comprising:

positioning a plurality of crawlers under the plurality of linear actuators such that the plurality of crawlers and the plurality of linear actuators support the structure;

retracting a first linear actuator supported by a first crawler;

sending instructions to the first crawler, receipt of the instructions causing the first crawler to move away from the first linear actuator; and

extending the first linear actuator to the first surface to support the structure.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising retracting each other linear actuator, sending instructions to each other crawler to move away from a corresponding linear actuator, and extending each other linear actuator to the first surface to support the structure.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein each linear actuator is retracted and extended in sequence such that only one linear actuator is retracted at a given time.

13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising extending the plurality of linear actuators onto the plurality of crawlers to lift the structure off of a second surface.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising rotating the structure on the second surface to move the plurality of linear actuators from above the second surface to positions overhanging edges of the second surface.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the structure includes a first portion rotatably coupled to a second portion, the method further comprising rotating the first portion relative to the second portion on the second surface.

16. A method of unloading a structure comprising (i) a first portion rotatably coupled to a second portion and (ii) a plurality of linear actuators, the method comprising:

rotating the first portion across a first surface and the second portion across the first surface to move the plurality of linear actuators from above the first surface to positions overhanging edges of the first surface;

extending the plurality of linear actuators to lift the structure off of the first surface;

retracting the plurality of linear actuators to lower the structure onto a plurality of crawlers;

sending instructions to the plurality of crawlers, receipt of the instructions causing the plurality of crawlers to travel across a second surface to carry the structure to a second location; and

extending the plurality of linear actuators onto the second surface to lift the structure off of the plurality of crawlers.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein rotating the first portion and the second portion comprises rotating the first portion and the second portion until a first edge of the first portion and second edge of the second portion meet, the method further comprising fixedly coupling the first portion to the second portion.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein rotating the first portion and the second portion comprises operating a winch to pull a center of the first portion toward a center of the second portion.

19. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

sending instructions to the plurality of crawlers, receipt of the instructions causing the plurality of crawlers to move out from underneath the structure; and

retracting the plurality of linear actuators to lower the structure to an installed height.
