Abstract

An appointment and payment handling system may operate to handle payments for appointments based on user locations at times associated with appointments. The appointment and payment handling system may determine if a location of a customer device associated with a customer associated with an appointment matches a location associated with the appointment. If the locations match, the appointment and payment handling system may create a payment record for a payment to the merchant from the customer based on the determination that the customer location matches the location associated with the appointment.

Claims (63)

1. A method comprising:

identifying, by one or more servers of a payment service, an unbooked appointment block of a merchant based at least in part on a plurality of appointment records associated with the merchant, wherein the merchant provides a service or an item that is associated with a request and unavailable at a second merchant;

identifying, by the one or more servers and in response to identifying the unbooked appointment block, one or more candidate customers of a plurality of customers of the merchant based at least in part on customer records;

determining, by the one or more servers, a candidate customer of the one or more candidate customers for the unbooked appointment block based at least in part on:

the customer records of the merchant; and

real-time geolocation data indicating that a customer device of the candidate customer is within a geofence associated with the unbooked appointment block;

causing, based on determining the candidate customer and the real-time geolocation data, presentation of, by the one or more servers, and on a display of the customer device of the candidate customer, via an instance of an application executing on the customer device, a notification including an appointment associated with the unbooked appointment block;

receiving by the one or more servers, an indication of acceptance of the appointment via the instance of the application executing on the customer device; and

based at least in part on determining that the candidate customer has accepted the appointment, updating by the one or more servers, in real-time, an appointment record for the appointment with information about the candidate customer such that the appointment record indicates the candidate customer has booked the appointment.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the customer records of the merchant indicate, for an individual customer, at least one of past patronage of the merchant by the candidate customer, scheduled appointments of the candidate customer with the merchant, and a customer identifier of the candidate customer.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending, by the one or more servers and to a merchant device of the merchant, a notification that the candidate customer is a candidate for the unbooked appointment block; and

receiving, by the one or more servers and via an application executing on the merchant device, approval of the merchant to offer the unbooked appointment block to the candidate customer,

wherein causing presentation of the appointment on the display of the customer device is responsive at least in part to receiving the approval of the merchant.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the candidate customer is further based at least in part on one or more appointment types associated with the unbooked appointment block.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the one or more servers and from a merchant device of the merchant, a request to fill the unbooked appointment block,

wherein identifying the unbooked appointment block of the merchant is at least partly responsive to receiving the request to fill the unbooked appointment block.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the unbooked appointment block of the merchant is further based at least in part on determining that the unbooked appointment block meets an urgency criterion associated with an amount of time before the unbooked appointment block.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the candidate customer for the unbooked appointment block further comprises determining whether the candidate customer is able to arrive at a merchant location by a start time of the unbooked appointment block.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the one or more servers and from a merchant device of the merchant, transaction data associated with the appointment; and

based at least in part on the transaction data, processing, by the one or more servers, payment by the candidate customer for the appointment.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

at least partly responsive to updating the appointment record associated with the unbooked appointment block to include the information about the candidate customer, sending, by the one or more servers and to the customer device, a confirmation of the appointment.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the notification further includes a promotion.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication of the acceptance comprises an indication received as natural language data, wherein the natural language data comprises text data, voice data, or handwritten data, the method further comprising:

performing, by the one or more servers, natural language processing on the indication of the acceptance to determine that the candidate customer has accepted the appointment.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of appointment records of the merchant and a plurality of other appointments of other merchants are stored in a database associated with the payment service.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the candidate customer further comprises determining, based on the customer records, that the candidate customer has submitted the request for the service or the item that is unavailable at the second merchant or that the candidate customer has previously submitted requests for services or items provided by the merchant.

14. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions executable by the one or more processors, wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:

identifying, by one or more servers of a payment service, an unbooked appointment block of a merchant based at least in part on a plurality of appointment records associated with the merchant, wherein the merchant provides a service or an item that is associated with a request and unavailable at a second merchant;

identifying, by the one or more servers and in response to identifying the unbooked appointment block, one or more candidate customers of a plurality of customers of the merchant based at least in part on customer records;

determining, by the one or more servers, a candidate customer of the one or more candidate customers for the unbooked appointment block based at least in part on:

the customer records of the merchant; and

real-time geolocation data indicating that a customer device of the candidate customer is within a geofence associated with the unbooked appointment block;

causing, based on determining the candidate customer and the real-time geolocation data, presentation of, by the one or more servers, and on a display of the customer device of the candidate customer, via an instance of an application executing on the customer device, a notification including an appointment associated with the unbooked appointment block;

receiving by the one or more servers, an indication of acceptance of the appointment via the instance of the application executing on the customer device; and

based at least in part on determining that the candidate customer has accepted the appointment, updating by the one or more servers, in real-time, an appointment record for the appointment with information about the candidate customer such that the appointment record indicates the candidate customer has booked the appointment.

15. The system of claim 14 , the acts further comprising:

sending, by the one or more servers and to a merchant device of the merchant, a notification that the candidate customer is a candidate for the unbooked appointment block; and

receiving, by the one or more servers and via an application executing on the merchant device, approval of the merchant to offer the unbooked appointment block to the candidate customer,

wherein causing presentation of the appointment on the display of the customer device is responsive at least in part to receiving the approval of the merchant.

16. The system of claim 14 , the acts further comprising:

receiving, by the one or more servers and from a merchant device of the merchant, a request to fill the unbooked appointment block,

wherein identifying the unbooked appointment block of the merchant is at least partly responsive to receiving the request to fill the unbooked appointment block.

17. The system of claim 14 , wherein identifying the unbooked appointment block of the merchant is further based at least in part on determining that the unbooked appointment block meets an urgency criterion associated with an amount of time before the unbooked appointment block.

18. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions executable by one or more processors that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:

identifying, by one or more servers of a payment service, an unbooked appointment block of a merchant based at least in part on a plurality of appointment records associated with the merchant, wherein the merchant provides a service or an item that is associated with a request and unavailable at a second merchant;

identifying, by the one or more servers and in response to identifying the unbooked appointment block, one or more candidate customers of a plurality of customers of the merchant based at least in part on customer records;

determining, by the one or more servers, a candidate customer of the one or more candidate customers for the unbooked appointment block based at least in part on:

the customer records of the merchant; and

real-time geolocation data indicating that a customer device of the candidate customer is within a geofence associated with the unbooked appointment block;

causing, based on determining the candidate customer and the real-time geolocation data, presentation of, by the one or more servers, and on a display of the customer device of the candidate customer, via an instance of an application executing on the customer device, a notification including an appointment associated with the unbooked appointment block;

receiving by the one or more servers, an indication of acceptance of the appointment via the instance of the application executing on the customer device; and

based at least in part on determining that the candidate customer has accepted the appointment, updating by the one or more servers, in real-time, an appointment record for the appointment with information about the candidate customer such that the appointment record indicates the candidate customer has booked the appointment.

19. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 18 , the acts further comprising:

receiving, by the one or more servers and from a merchant device of the merchant, transaction data associated with the appointment; and

based at least in part on the transaction data, processing, by the one or more servers, payment by the candidate customer for the appointment.

20. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 18 , the acts further comprising:

at least partly responsive to updating the appointment record associated with the unbooked appointment block to include the information about the candidate customer, sending, by the one or more servers and to the customer device, a confirmation of the appointment.
