Abstract

A renal failure therapy system includes a dialyzer; a blood circuit in fluid communication with the dialyzer; a dialysis fluid circuit in fluid communication with the dialyzer; a housing supporting the dialyzer, the blood circuit and the dialysis fluid circuit; and at least one electrical socket held by the housing, the electrical socket providing a voltage output dedicated to a particular voltage type of external electrical device for powering or charging the external electrical device, the at least one electrical socket including electrical insulation for protecting a patient while powering the external electrical device.

Claims (35)

1. A renal failure therapy system comprising:

a dialyzer;

a blood circuit in fluid communication with the dialyzer;

a dialysis fluid circuit in fluid communication with the dialyzer;

a housing supporting the dialyzer, the blood circuit and the dialysis fluid circuit;

a first electrical socket held by the housing, the first electrical socket including a first transformer and configured to provide a first voltage output for a first external electrical device; and

a second electrical socket held by the housing, the second electrical socket including a second transformer and configured to provide a second voltage output that is less than the first voltage output for a second external electrical device,

wherein the first and second electrical sockets are configured to power or charge the respective external electrical device via the respective transformer,

wherein each transformer of the first and second electrical sockets is configured to provide galvanic isolation to form an open cirucit and prevent propagation of fault currents, the respective transformer having an input coil separated physically from an output coil, the input coil magnetically inducing the respective first and second output voltages in the output coil, and

wherein each of the first and second electrical sockets includes electrical insulation for protecting a patient while powering or charging the respective external electrical device.

2. The renal failure therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the second electrical socket is a Universal Serial Bus (USB) socket and the first electrical socket is a 120_VAC or 220_VAC socket.

3. The renal failure therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the first voltage output is selected from the group consisting of a 120 VAC output and a 240 VAC output.

4. The renal failure therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical insulation of the first or second electrically insulated electrical socket includes a DC to DC converter.

5. The renal failure therapy system of claim 4 , wherein the DC to DC converter includes an input conductively insulated from an output.

6. The renal failure therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical insulation of the first or second electrical socket includes the respective first or second transformer in combination with a DC to AC converter.

7. The renal failure therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical insulation includes double electrical insulation.

8. The renal failure therapy machine of claim 1 , wherein the first electrical socket is configured to provide an AC voltage and the second electrical socket is configured to provide a DC voltage.

9. The renal failure therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second electrical sockets are part of a bank of electrical sockets configured to provide voltage outputs for respective external electrical devices.

10. The renal failure therapy system of claim 9 , wherein the bank is a first bank, the renal failure therapy system further comprising a second bank of electrical sockets configured to provide a second voltage output dedicated to a voltage of a second external electrical device, the second voltage output being different from the first voltage output.

11. The renal failure therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the first electrical socket is located on a front, side, top or backside of the housing.

a dialysis fluid circuit in fluid communication with the dialyzer,

a housing supporting the dialyzer, the blood circuit and the dialysis fluid circuit,

a first electrical socket held by the housing, the first electrical socket including a first transformer and configured to provide a first voltage output for the first external electrical device, and

a second electrical socket held by the housing, the second electrical socket including a second transformer and configured to provide a second voltage output that is less than the first voltage output for a second external electrical device,

wherein the first and second electrical sockets are configured to power or charge the respective external electrical device via the respective transformer,

wherein each transformer of the first and second electrical sockets is configured to provide galvanic isolation to form an open circuit and prevent propagation of fault currents, the transformer having an input coil separated physically from an output coil, the input coil magnetically inducing the respective first and second output voltage in the output coil, and

wherein each of the first and second electrical sockets includes electrical insulation for protecting a patient while powering or charging the respective external electrical device.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein at least one of the first external electrical device or the second external electrical device is a personal communication/computing device, a reading lamp, or a heating pad.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the second electrical socket is a Universal Serial Bus (USB) socket and the first electrical socket is a 120_VAC or 220_VAC socket.

15. The system of claim 12 , wherein the first voltage output is selected from the group consisting of a 120 VAC output and a 240 VAC output.
