Abstract

A cartridge incudes a developing roller for developing a latent image on a photosensitive drum, a drive inputting portion for receiving a driving force for driving the developing roller, a movable lever, and a clutch for transmitting the driving force received by the drive inputting portion to the developing roller. In a state where the developing roller contacts the photosensitive drum, the clutch is capable of preventing the transmission of the driving force to the developing roller in response to a position of the movable lever.

Claims (34)

1. A cartridge comprising:

(i) a developing roller for developing a latent image on a photosensitive drum;

(ii) a drive inputting portion for receiving a driving force for driving the developing roller;

(iii) a movable lever; and

(iv) a clutch for transmitting the driving force received by the drive inputting portion to the developing roller,

wherein, in a state where the developing roller contacts the photosensitive drum, the clutch is capable of preventing the transmission of the driving force to the developing roller in response to a position of the movable lever.

2. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the movable lever is movable between a first position and a second position, and

wherein the clutch is capable of transmitting the driving force to the developing roller when the movable lever is in the first position, and the clutch is capable of preventing the transmission of the driving force to the developing roller when the moveable lever is in the second position.

3. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the clutch includes:

a first drive transmission member for receiving the driving force from the drive inputting portion; and

a second drive transmission member capable of transmitting the driving force from the first drive transmission member to the developing roller,

wherein, in the state that the developing roller contacts the photosensitive drum, the clutch is capable of preventing the transmission of the driving force from the first drive transmission member to the second drive transmission member in response to the position of the movable lever.

4. A cartridge according to claim 3 , wherein the first drive transmission member is provided with the drive inputting portion.

A cartridge according to claim 3 , wherein the first transmission member includes a first engagement portion, and the second transmission member includes a second engagement portion for receiving the driving force from the first engagement portion by engaging with the first engagement portion, and

wherein the first engagement portion and the second engagement portion are separated from each other in response to the position of the movable lever.

6. A cartridge according to claim 3 , wherein the first drive transmission member is movable along a rotational axis thereof.

7. A cartridge according to claim 3 , wherein the second drive transmission member is movable along a rotational axis thereof.

8. A cartridge according to claim 3 , wherein the clutch includes the movable lever, and

wherein the movable lever includes a cam for separating the first transmission member and the second transmission member from each other.

9. A cartridge according to claim 3 , wherein the movable lever is movable between the first position to the second position in response to reception of an urging force.

10. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a transmission gear configured to transmit the driving force from the clutch to the developing roller.

11. A cartridge according to claim 10 , wherein at least a part of the clutch is disposed inside the transmission gear.

12. A cartridge according to claim 10 , wherein the transmission gear is coaxially aligned with the drive inputting portion.

13. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein, when the cartridge is oriented with the developing roller at a downward side of the cartridge, an end of the movable lever is positioned lower than a rotational axis of the developing roller.

14. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the cartridge is detachably mountable to a main assembly of an image forming apparatus, and

wherein the drive inputting portion is capable of receiving the driving force by engaging with a main assembly side drive transmission member provided in the main assembly, and the movable lever is capable of receiving an urging force by contacting an urging member provided in the main assembly.

15. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a photosensitive drum,

wherein the movable lever is rotatable with respect to the photosensitive drum and the developing roller.

16. A cartridge according to claim 15 , wherein the cartridge includes a first frame rotatably supporting the photosensitive drum and a second frame rotatably supporting the developing roller.

17. A cartridge according to claim 15 , wherein the movable lever is movable relative to the photosensitive drum from a first position to a second position in the state that the developing roller contacts the photosensitive drum, and

wherein the clutch is capable of transmitting the driving force to the developing roller when the movable lever is in the first position, and the clutch is capable of preventing the transmission of the driving force to the developing roller when the movable lever is in the second position.

18. An electrophotographic image forming apparatus comprising:

a main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus; and

a cartridge according to claim 1 .
