Abstract

A processing device comprising a graphical user interface in an industrial vehicle is provided. The processing device comprises a touch screen display that receives touch gesture commands from a vehicle operator, memory storing executable instructions, and a processor in communication with the memory. The processor when executing the executable instructions: defines a plurality of widgets, wherein each widget comprises a visual representation of a current state of an associated function of the vehicle, displays a subset of the plurality of widgets on a portion of the touch screen display defining a plurality of widget spaces, and displays an icon tray on the touch screen display comprising one or more icons, in which at least one of the one or more icons corresponds to a respective one of the plurality of widgets.

Claims (56)

1. An industrial vehicle comprising:

a carriage assembly comprising one or more forks;

a lift control for causing the carriage assembly to be lifted or lowered when actuated; and

a processing device comprising a graphical user interface, the processing device comprising a touch screen display, a memory storing executable instructions, and a processor in communication with the memory, wherein the processor when executing the executable instructions:

defines a plurality of widgets, each widget comprising a visual representation of a current state of an associated function of the industrial vehicle, wherein the plurality of widgets comprises a rack height select (RHS) widget and a capacity data monitoring (CDM) widget, wherein the CDM widget comprises a scale, a current sensed load weight, a visual representation of the one or more forks, and a numerical indication of a current position of the carriage assembly, and the rack height select (RHS) widget comprises a load presence indicator providing a visual indication of a presence or an absence of a detected load;

controls display of at least one of the plurality of widgets on a portion of the screen display defining one or more widget spaces;

controls display of an icon tray on the screen display comprising one or more icons, wherein one icon of the one or more icons corresponds to an RHS feature;

when the one icon is activated, activates the RHS feature and allows a selection of a programmed rack height, such that when a vehicle operator actuates the lift control, the carriage assembly will automatically stop at the selected programmed rack height, wherein the RHS widget changes in real time to indicate a position of the carriage assembly with respect to the selected programmed rack height;

when the one icon is not activated, the RHS feature is inactive, such that when the vehicle operator actuates the lift control, the carriage assembly will move to any height upon continuous activation of the lift control by the vehicle operator;

controls display of the current sensed load weight adjacent to the visual representation of the one or more forks and causes the current sensed load weight, the visual representation of the one or more forks, and the numerical indication of a current position of the carriage assembly to move vertically along the scale to indicate, in real-time, a current position of the carriage assembly and the current sensed load weight; and

upon activation of a touch-sensitive region of the load presence indicator on the touch screen display by the vehicle operator, overrides the indication of the absence of a detected load.

2. The industrial vehicle of claim 1 , wherein a visual appearance of the one icon changes upon activation.

3. The industrial vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the processor when executing the executable instructions:

defines a plurality of widget spaces; and

in response to detecting the activation of the one icon, moves the RHS widget to a predefined widget space on the screen display.

4. The industrial vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the processor when executing the executable instructions:

defines a plurality of widget spaces; and

in response to detecting the activation of the one icon, locks the RHS widget in position in a first widget space on the screen display.

5. The industrial vehicle of claim 4 , wherein the processor when executing the executable instructions:

further in response to detecting the activation of the one icon, shifts the remaining one or more widgets to the one or more remaining widget spaces.

6. The industrial vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the processor when executing the executable instructions: defines the icon tray as a separate portion of the screen display from the plurality of widget spaces, the icon tray being spaced apart from the plurality of widget spaces.

7. The industrial vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the RHS widget comprises a workspace zone menu comprising a plurality of workspace zones, each workspace zone having a corresponding sub-menu comprising a plurality of programmed rack heights associated with the workspace zone.

The industrial vehicle of claim 7 , wherein when the one icon is activated, the processor when executing the executable instructions: displays the workspace zone menu comprising the plurality of workspace zones; receives a selection of one workspace zone of the plurality of workspace zones; and displays an identifier of the one workspace zone.

The industrial vehicle of claim 8 , wherein the processor when executing the executable instructions: displays the sub-menu corresponding to the one workspace zone; receives a selection of one programmed rack height of the plurality of programmed rack heights within the sub-menu; and displays an identifier of the one programmed rack height.

The industrial vehicle of claim 7 , wherein the processor when executing the executable instructions: color-codes at least a portion of each workspace zone with a different color; and color-codes at least a portion of each sub-menu with a same color associated with the corresponding workspace zone.

11. The industrial vehicle of claim 1 , further comprising:

a vehicle network system connecting the processor to at least one vehicle network bus, wherein the processor extracts a current position of a carriage assembly and the current sensed load weight.

12. The industrial vehicle of claim 1 , further comprising a vehicle operator control section comprising one or more physical input control elements, wherein the one or more physical input control elements are used to make selections on the screen display.

13. The industrial vehicle of claim 12 , wherein the one or more physical input control elements comprise at least one of a five-button control, a trigger switch, or a rotary control knob.

14. The industrial vehicle of claim 1 , wherein:

the screen display comprises a touch screen display that receives touch gesture commands from the vehicle operator; and

the processor when executing the executable instructions:

controls display of a subset of the plurality of widgets on the portion of the screen display defining the one or more widget spaces;

determines if a speed of the industrial vehicle is below a threshold speed;

when the speed of the industrial vehicle is below the threshold speed, changes one or more of the widgets of the subset on the touch screen display following detection of a touch gesture on the touch screen display; and

when the speed of the industrial vehicle is above the threshold speed, disables one or more portions of the touch screen display.

15. The industrial vehicle of claim 1 , wherein:

the icon corresponding to the RHS feature comprises text; and

the text changes appearance when the one icon is activated.

16. The industrial vehicle of claim 4 , wherein:

the plurality of widgets comprise one or more widgets available for display, the one or more widgets available for display being arranged in an array;

the screen display further comprises a widget position indicator illustrating a number and a relative position within the array of the one or more widgets available for display; and

in response to detecting the activation of the one icon, the processor when executing the executable instructions:

alters one or more characteristics of a portion of the widget position indicator corresponding to the RHS widget to indicate that the RHS widget is locked in position in the first widget space on the screen display.

17. An industrial vehicle comprising:

a carriage assembly;

a lift control for causing the carriage assembly to be lifted or lowered when actuated; and

a processing device comprising a graphical user interface, a touch screen display, a memory storing executable instructions, and a processor in communication with the memory, wherein the processor when executing the executable instructions:

defines one or more widgets, each widget comprising a visual representation of a current state of an associated function of the industrial vehicle, wherein the one or more widgets comprise a rack height select (RHS) widget comprising a load presence indicator providing a visual indication of a presence or an absence of a detected load;

controls display of at least one of the one or more widgets on a portion of the touch screen display defining one or more widget spaces;

controls display of an icon tray on the touch screen display comprising one or more icons, wherein one icon of the one or more icons corresponds to a rack height select (RHS) feature;

when the one icon is activated, activates the RHS feature and allows a selection of a programmed rack height, such that when a vehicle operator actuates the lift control, the carriage assembly will automatically stop at the selected programmed rack height;

when the one icon is not activated, the RHS feature is inactive, such that when the vehicle operator actuates the lift control, the carriage assembly will move to any height upon continuous activation of the lift control by the vehicle operator; and

upon activation of a touch-sensitive region of the load presence indicator on the touch screen display by the vehicle operator, overrides the indication of the absence of a detected load.

18. The industrial vehicle of claim 17 , wherein the processor when executing the executable instructions:

changes one or more characteristics of the load presence indicator on the touch screen display to reflect activation of the portion of the load presence indicator.
