Abstract

A link startup method of a storage device connected to a host through a plurality of lanes includes performing an initialization operation in the storage device; establishing data communication through a connected transmission lane and a connected reception lane among the plurality of lanes; transmitting a high speed link up message to the host through the connected transmission lane of the storage device; and performing a link startup operation in a high speed mode through the connected transmission lane of the storage device and the connected reception lane of the host, based on the high speed link up message transmitted by the storage device.

wherein the storage device is configured to perform an initialization operation and then transmit the high speed link up message to the host device, and

wherein, when a length of the activate period is less than a reference time, the transmission lane and the reception lane enter the high speed mode.

2. The storage device of claim 1 , wherein the initialization operation includes reading initialization information stored in the nonvolatile memory and setting the initialization information in a configuration register, when booting the storage device.

3. The storage device of claim 2 , wherein the initialization information includes at least one of protection information about whether to prohibit program/discard of the nonvolatile memory, trimming data for trimming an operating voltage level in an operation mode, column repair information for repairing a failed bit line, or information about a bad block including bad memory cells.

4. The storage device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one receiver in the storage device is configured to

receive the low speed link up message from the host device through the reception lane, and

perform link startup in a low speed mode through the transmission lane of the host device and the reception lane of the storage device based on the low speed link up of the host device.

5. The storage device of claim 4 , wherein the at least one receiver in the storage device is configured to receive a low speed link startup primitive indicating the low speed link up message, through the reception lane of the storage device.

6. The storage device of claim 5 , wherein the low speed link startup primitive is received by being carried on a first trigger event of a link startup sequence, and

the first trigger event of the link startup sequence is performed so that a physical lane number of the transmission lane of the host device is transmitted to the reception lane of the storage device.

7. The storage device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one transmitter in the storage device is configured to transition a line in the transmission lane from a zero differential line voltage DIF-Z to a negative differential line voltage DIF-N and then transitions to a line-reset period having a positive differential line voltage DIF-P, and

wherein a length of the line-reset period is set to a first time or more.

8. The storage device of claim 7 , wherein the first time is set to 3.1 ms.

9. The storage device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one transmitter in the storage device is configured to transition a line in the transmission lane from a zero differential line voltage DIF-Z to an activate period having a negative differential line voltage DIF-N, and

wherein a length of the activate period is set to less than a second time.

10. The storage device of claim 9 , wherein the second time is set to 0.9 ms.

11. The storage device of claim 9 , wherein the second time is set to 1.6 ms.

12. A host device comprising:

an interconnect part comprising at least one receiver and at least one transmitter,

wherein the interconnect part is configured to perform data communication through a transmission lane and a reception lane among at least one lane connected between the host device and a storage device,

wherein the host device is configured to perform link startup in a high speed mode through the reception lane and the transmission lane when the at least one receiver determines whether to receive a high speed link up message from the storage device through the reception lane and receives the high speed link up message from the storage device as a result of the determination, wherein a line in the transmission lane transitions from a zero differential line voltage DIF-Z to an activate period having a negative differential line voltage DIF-N,

wherein the host device is configured to be initialized to the high speed mode and then determine whether to receive the high speed link up message from the storage device through the reception lane in a stand-by state, and

wherein, when a length of the activate period is less than a reference time, the transmission lane and the reception lane enter the high speed mode, and when the length of the activate period is equal to or greater than the reference time, the transmission lane and the reception lane enter a low speed mode.

13. The host device of claim 12 , wherein the host device is configured to determine the high speed link up when a high speed link startup primitive indicating the high speed link up message is received from the storage device through the reception lane.

14. The host device of claim 13 , wherein the high speed link startup primitive is received by being carried on a first trigger event of a link startup sequence, and

the first trigger event of the link startup sequence is performed so that a physical lane number of the transmission lane of the storage device is received through the reception lane of the host device.

15. The host device of claim 13 , wherein the host device is configured to determine the high speed link up when the high speed link startup primitive is received within a third time from a reset signal release.
