Abstract

A printing apparatus including a print head having an ejection port surface with an ejection port for ejecting liquid, a printing element to generate energy for ejecting the liquid, a pressure chamber provided between the printing element and the ejection port, a first flow path in communication with the pressure chamber, and a second flow path in communication with the pressure chamber, with the liquid ejected from the ejection port through the pressure chamber, an obtaining unit to obtain information on a time during which the liquid is not ejected from the ejection port, and a circulation unit to circulate the liquid. When a time indicated by information obtained by the obtaining unit exceeds a predetermined time, the circulation unit circulates the liquid from the first flow path to the second flow path through the pressure chamber with the ejection port surface capped by a cap mechanism.

Claims (121)

1. A printing apparatus comprising:

a print head comprising: an ejection port surface provided with an ejection port for ejecting liquid; a printing element configured to generate energy for ejecting the liquid from the ejection port; a pressure chamber provided between the printing element and the ejection port; a first flow path in communication with the pressure chamber; and a second flow path in communication with the pressure chamber, wherein the liquid is ejected from the ejection port through the pressure chamber;

an obtaining unit configured to obtain information on a time during which the liquid is not ejected from the ejection port; and

a circulation unit configured to circulate the liquid,

wherein, in a case when a time indicated by information obtained by the obtaining unit exceeds a predetermined time, the circulation unit circulates the liquid from the first flow path to the second flow path through the pressure chamber with the ejection port surface capped by a cap mechanism.

2. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising the cap mechanism configured to cap the ejection port surface,

wherein the obtaining unit obtains information indicating a time during which the ejection port surface is capped by the cap mechanism, and,

in a case when a time indicated by information obtained by the obtaining unit exceeds the predetermined time, the circulation unit circulates the liquid from the first flow path to the second flow path through the pressure chamber.

3. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a derivation unit configured to derive a time during which the circulation unit performs the circulation based on a temperature in an installation environment of the printing apparatus or a temperature of the print head.

4. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a head temperature adjustment mechanism configured to adjust a temperature of the print head; and

a derivation unit configured to derive a time during which the circulation unit performs the circulation based on a set temperature of the head temperature adjustment mechanism.

5. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a storage unit configured to store the liquid;

a supply flow path configured to supply the liquid from the storage unit to the print head; and

a recovery flow path configured to cause the liquid to flow from the print head to the supply flow path again,

wherein the circulation unit circulates the liquid so that the liquid flows from the storage unit to the pressure chamber through the supply flow path, and the first flow path and then flows again to the first flow path through the second flow path and the recovery flow path.

6. The printing apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein

the recovery flow path is a recovery flow path for recovering the liquid from the print head to the storage unit, and

the circulation unit circulates the liquid so that the liquid flows from the storage unit to the pressure chamber through the supply flow path, and the first flow path, and then flows again to the storage unit through the second flow path and the recovery flow path.

7. The printing apparatus according to claim 5 wherein

the circulation unit is a supply pump provided in the supply flow path and a recovery pump provided in the recovery flow path.

8. The printing apparatus according to claim 5 , further comprising a main tank configured to store liquid to be supplied to the storage unit.

9. The printing apparatus according to claim 5 , further comprising a negative pressure control unit configured to generate a negative pressure,

wherein the negative pressure control unit is provided between the supply flow path and the ejection port.

10. The printing apparatus according to claim 9 , further comprising a filter,

wherein, in a direction of flow of liquid from the supply flow path to the print head, the negative pressure control unit is provided upstream of the filter.

11. The printing apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein

the circulation unit is a pump provided in the supply flow path, and

the printing apparatus further comprises a third flow path for circulating the liquid to feed the liquid to an upstream side of the pump, the third flow path branching from the supply flow path downstream of the pump provided in the supply flow path in a direction in which the liquid flows.

12. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a storage unit configured to store the liquid; and

a supply flow path configured to supply the liquid from the storage unit to the print head,

wherein the circulation unit is a pump provided in the supply flow path.

13. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the print head comprises a negative pressure control unit configured to generate a negative pressure.

14. The printing apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein

the print head comprises two negative pressure control units, and

the two negative pressure control units generate different negative pressures.

15. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the print head is a full line head.

16. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the print head comprises: a common supply flow path connected to the supply flow path and configured to supply ink to the pressure chamber; and a common recovery flow path connected to the supply flow path and the recovery flow path and configured to recovery ink from the pressure chamber, and

the printing apparatus further comprises: a first pressure control unit provided between the supply flow path and the common supply flow path and configured to control pressure; and a second pressure control unit, provided between the supply flow path and the common recovery flow path, configured to control pressure, and configured to generate a negative pressure greater than that generated by the first pressure control unit.

17. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein,

in a case when a temperature in an installation environment of the printing apparatus is a first temperature, the circulation unit circulates the liquid during a first time, and,

in a case when the temperature in the installation environment of the printing apparatus is a second temperature that is lower than the first temperature, the circulation unit circulates the liquid during a second time that is longer than the first time.

18. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein,

in a case when the printing apparatus receives an instruction to print an image from a user during a circulation operation of the liquid in the circulation path, the circulation unit stops the circulation operation.

19. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the circulation unit circulates the liquid during a printing operation by the print head.

20. A printing apparatus comprising:

a print head comprising: an ejection port surface provided with an ejection port for ejecting liquid; a printing element configured to generate energy for ejecting the liquid from the ejection port; a pressure chamber provided between the printing element and the ejection port; a first flow path in communication with the pressure chamber; and a second flow path in communication with the pressure chamber, wherein the liquid is ejected from the ejection port through the pressure chamber;

a cap mechanism configured to cap the ejection port surface; and

a circulation unit configured to circulate the liquid,

wherein, in a case when a time during which the ejection port surface is capped by the cap mechanism exceeds a predetermined time, the circulation unit circulates the liquid from the first flow path to the second flow path through the pressure chamber.

21. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein,

in a case when a time during which the ejection port surface is capped by the cap mechanism exceeds a predetermined time, the circulation unit circulates the liquid from the first flow path to the second flow path through the pressure chamber with the ejection port surface capped by the cap mechanism.

22. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , further comprising a derivation unit configured to derive a time during which the circulation unit performs the circulation based on a temperature in an installation environment of the printing apparatus or a temperature of the print head.

23. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , further comprising:

a head temperature adjustment mechanism configured to adjust a temperature of the print head; and

a derivation unit configured to derive a time during which the circulation unit performs the circulation based on a set temperature of the head temperature adjustment mechanism.

24. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , further comprising:

a storage unit configured to store the liquid;

a supply flow path configured to supply the liquid from the storage unit to the print head; and

a recovery flow path configured to cause the liquid to flow from the print head to the supply flow path again,

wherein the circulation unit circulates the liquid so that the liquid flows from the storage unit to the pressure chamber through the supply flow path and the first flow path, and then flows again to the first flow path through the second flow path and the recovery flow path.

25. The printing apparatus according to claim 24 , wherein the recovery flow path is a recovery flow path for recovering the liquid from the print head to the storage unit, and

the circulation unit circulates the liquid so that the liquid flows from the storage unit to the pressure chamber through the supply flow path and the first flow path, and then flows again to the storage unit through the second flow path and the recovery flow path.

26. The printing apparatus according to claim 24 , wherein

the circulation unit is a supply pump provided in the supply flow path and a recovery pump provided in the recovery flow path.

27. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , further comprising:

a storage unit configured to store the liquid; and

a supply flow path configured to supply the liquid from the storage unit to the print head,

wherein the circulation unit is provided between the storage unit and the ejection port.

28. The printing apparatus according to claim 27 ,

wherein the circulation unit is a pump provided in the supply flow path.

29. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , further comprising a main tank configured to store liquid to be supplied to the storage unit.

30. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , further comprising: a negative pressure control unit configured to generate a negative pressure; and

a storage unit configured to store the liquid,

wherein the negative pressure control unit is provided between the storage unit and the ejection port.

31. The printing apparatus according to claim 30 , further comprising a filter,

wherein, in a direction of flow of the liquid from the supply flow path to the print head, the negative pressure control unit is provided downstream of the filter.

32. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein

the print head comprises a negative pressure control unit configured to generate a negative pressure.

33. The printing apparatus according to claim 32 , wherein

the print head comprises two negative pressure control units, and

the two negative pressure control units generate different negative pressures.

34. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein the print head is a full line head.

35. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein

the print head comprises: a common supply flow path connected to the supply flow path and configured to supply ink to the pressure chamber; and a common recovery flow path connected to the supply flow path and the recovery flow path, and configured to recovery ink from the pressure chamber, and

the printing apparatus further comprises: a first pressure control unit provided between the supply flow path and the common supply flow path, and configured to control pressure; and a second pressure control unit provided between the supply flow path and the common recovery flow path, configured to control pressure, and configured to generate a negative pressure greater than that generated by the first pressure control unit.

36. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , further comprising:

a storage unit configured to store the liquid;

a supply flow path configured to supply the liquid from the storage unit to the print head; and

a third flow path connected to the supply path.

37. The printing apparatus according to claim 36 , wherein

the circulation unit is a pump provided in the supply flow path, and

the third flow path is for circulating the liquid to feed the liquid to an upstream side of the pump, the third flow path branching from the supply flow path downstream of the pump provided in the supply flow path in a direction in which the liquid flows.

38. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein,

in a case when a temperature in an installation environment of the printing apparatus is a first temperature, the circulation unit circulates the liquid during a first time, and,

in a case when the temperature in the installation environment of the printing apparatus is a second temperature that is lower than the first temperature, the circulation unit circulates the liquid during a second time that is longer than the first time.

39. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein,

in a case when the printing apparatus receives an instruction to print an image from a user during a circulation operation of the liquid in the circulation path, the circulation unit stops the circulation operation.

40. The printing apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein

the circulation unit circulates the liquid during a printing operation by the print head.

41. A control method for controlling a printing apparatus, the printing apparatus comprising:

a print head comprising: an ejection port surface provided with an ejection port for ejecting liquid; a printing element configured to generate energy for ejecting the liquid from the ejection port; a pressure chamber provided between the printing element and the ejection port; a first flow path in communication with the pressure chamber; and a second flow path in communication with the pressure chamber, wherein the liquid is ejected from the ejection port through the pressure chamber;

an obtaining unit configured to obtain information on a time during which the liquid is not ejected from the ejection port; and

a circulation unit configured to circulate the liquid,

the control method comprising:

a circulation step of circulating, by the circulation unit, the liquid from the first flow path to the second flow path through the pressure chamber, in a case when a time indicated by information obtained by the obtaining unit exceeds a predetermined time with the ejection port surface capped by a cap mechanism.

42. The control method according to claim 41 , wherein

the printing apparatus further comprises a cap mechanism configured to cap the ejection port surface,

and further comprising obtaining, by the obtaining unit, information indicating a time during which the ejection port surface is capped by the cap mechanism, and,

in a case when a time indicated by information obtained by the obtaining unit exceeds the predetermined time, in the circulation step, the liquid is circulated from the first flow path to the second flow path through the pressure chamber.

43. A control method for controlling a printing apparatus, the printing apparatus comprising:

a print head comprising: an ejection port surface provided with an ejection port for ejecting liquid; a printing element configured to generate energy for ejecting the liquid from the ejection port; a pressure chamber provided between the printing element and the ejection port; a first flow path in communication with the pressure chamber; and a second flow path in communication with the pressure chamber, wherein the liquid is ejected from the ejection port through the pressure chamber;

a cap mechanism configured to cap the ejection port surface; and

a circulation unit configured to circulate the liquid,

the control method comprising:

a circulation step of circulating, by the circulation unit, the liquid from the first flow path to the second flow path through the pressure chamber in a case when a time during which the ejection port surface is capped by the cap mechanism exceeds a predetermined time.
