Abstract

A frequency measurement method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system is provided. The frequency measurement method includes: receiving a radio resource control (RRC) release message or system information including first frequency measurement configuration information for frequency measurement in an RRC inactive mode; performing frequency measurement in the RRC inactive mode based on the first frequency measurement configuration information; receiving first RRC resume message including an indicator requesting a measurement report in the RRC inactive mode; and transmitting an RRC resume complete message including the measurement report based on the indicator.

Claims (51)

1 . A method performed by a user equipment (UE) for a frequency measurement in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving first frequency measurement configuration information;

transmitting, to a base station, a radio resource control (RRC) resume request message, while in an RRC inactive mode;

receiving, from the base station, an RRC release message in response to transmitting the RRC resume request message while in the RRC inactive mode;

in case that the RRC release message includes second frequency measurement configuration information, identifying whether the second frequency measurement configuration information includes a frequency measurement list to be measured during an idle state or an inactive state; and

in case that the second frequency measurement configuration information includes the frequency measurement list, performing the frequency measurement based on the frequency measurement list.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in case that the RRC release message includes the second frequency measurement configuration information:

stopping a timer for the frequency measurement;

releasing the first frequency measurement configuration information; and

starting the timer with a value included in the second frequency measurement configuration information.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the RRC release message further includes suspend configuration information.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the frequency measurement list includes at least one of an evolved universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) terrestrial radio access (EUTRA) frequency measurement list or a new radio (NR) frequency measurement list.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving system information of a cell where the UE camps,
