Abstract

A resistance training system includes a tackle providing mechanical advantage, and a user performs strength training exercises by pulling or pushing on the running block while resisting motion of the running block by pulling or pushing on the free end of the runner. The running block, fixed block and free end of the system may be secured at various locations of the body.

Claims (49)

1 . A method of performing resistance training exercise, said method comprising:

providing a resistance training system comprising:

a tackle having a fixed block, a running block and a runner with a free end and a fixed end, said free end configured to be secured to a first user's body, said fixed end secured to the fixed block, a running block connection configured to be secured to the first user's body, wherein the tackle is configured to provide mechanical advantage;

securing the fixed block in a fixed position;

securing the running block connection to the first user's body in a first location;

securing the free end to a second user, using a harness secured about a waist of the second user;

using the first user's body to move the running block while keeping the fixed block stationary;

using the second user's body to resist movement of the free end in response to movement of the running block.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein:

the step of using the first user's body to move the running block comprises securing the running block to a first extremity of the first user and pulling the running block away from the fixed block.

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein:

the step of using the first user's body to move the running block comprises securing the running block to a hand of the first user and pulling the running block away from the fixed block.

4 . A method of performing resistance training exercise, said method comprising:

providing a resistance training system comprising:

a tackle having a fixed block, a running block and a runner with a free end and a fixed end, said free end configured to be secured to a first user's body, said fixed end secured to the fixed block, a running block connection configured to be secured to the first user's body, wherein the tackle is configured to provide mechanical advantage;

securing the fixed block in a fixed position;

securing the running block connection to the first user's body in a first location;

securing the free end to the first user's body in a second location, said second location being an extremity of the first user's body;

using the first user's body to move the running block while keeping the fixed block stationary;

resisting movement of the free end in response to movement of the running block; wherein

the step of using the first user's body to move the running block comprises securing the running block to a hand of the first user and pulling the running block away from the fixed block.

5 . A method of performing resistance training exercise, said method comprising:

providing a resistance training system comprising:

a tackle having a fixed block, a running block and a runner with a free end and a fixed end, said free end configured to be secured to a first user's body, said fixed end secured to the fixed block, a running block connection configured to be secured to the first user's body, wherein the tackle is configured to provide mechanical advantage;

securing the fixed block in a fixed position;

securing the running block connection to the first user's body in a first location;

securing the free end to the first user's body in a second location, said second location being an extremity of the first user's body;

using the first user's body to move the running block while keeping the fixed block stationary;

resisting movement of the free end in response to movement of the running block; wherein

the step of using the first user's body to move the running block comprises securing the running block to a waist of the first user and pulling the running block upward and away from the fixed block.

6 . A method of performing resistance training exercise, said method comprising:

providing a resistance training system comprising:

a tackle having a fixed block, a running block and a runner with a free end and a fixed end, said free end configured to be secured to a first user's body, said fixed end secured to the fixed block, a running block connection configured to be secured to the first user's body, wherein the tackle is configured to provide mechanical advantage;

securing the fixed block in a fixed position;

securing the running block connection to the first user's body in a first location;

securing the free end to the first user's body in a second location, said second location being an extremity of the first user's body;

using the first user's body to move the running block while keeping the fixed block stationary;

resisting movement of the free end in response to movement of the running block; wherein

the step of using the first user's body to move the running block comprises securing the running block to a waist of the first user and moving the torso, using a leg of the first user, by extension of the leg, to move the running block upward and away from the fixed block.

7 . A method of performing resistance training exercise, said method comprising:

providing a resistance training system comprising:

a tackle having a fixed block, a running block and a runner with a free end and a fixed end, said free end configured to be secured to a first user's body, said fixed end secured to the fixed block, a running block connection configured to be secured to the first user's body, wherein the tackle is configured to provide mechanical advantage;

securing the fixed block in a fixed position;

securing the running block connection to the first user's body in a first location;

securing the free end to the first user's body in a second location, said second location being an extremity of the first user's body;

using the first user's body to move the running block while keeping the fixed block stationary;

resisting movement of the free end in response to movement of the running block; wherein

the step of securing the fixed block in a fixed position comprises securing the fixed block to a foot of the first user; and

the step of using the first user's body to move the running block comprises securing the running block to a waist of the first user and pulling the running block upward and away from the fixed block.
