Abstract

Methods and systems for identifying and determining the size and orientation of a reamed portion of a patient's bone are disclosed. A tracking array and/or point probe may be inserted into an adapter device. The adapter device comprising a plurality of openings, having various connection means therein, such that when the tracking array is inserted into the adapter, a secure and robust connection is created. A reamer, stem, or similar tool may then be inserted into the opposing side of the adapter, during which, a secure and robust connection is created between the adapter and the tool. Thus, through the use of Computer Assisted Surgery Systems, a more accurate representation of the patient's anatomy can be obtained.

Claims (17)

1 . A femoral implant device comprising:

a femoral load bearing component;

an intramedullary stem;

an offset component comprising:

an elongated first end portion comprising a first connection interface for attaching to the femoral load bearing component, and

an elongated second end portion opposing the first end portion, the second end portion comprising a second connection interface for attaching the intramedullary stem; and

a tracking array,

wherein an axis of the first end portion is offset from an axis of elongation of the second end portion in order to adjust an alignment of the femoral implant by an offset factor based on an axis of a reamed portion of an intramedullary canal of a femur,

wherein the femoral implant is configured to be at least partially implantable within the reamed portion of the intramedullary canal of the femur, and

wherein the intramedullary stem comprises an attachment point configured to interchangeably affix to the second connection interface and to the tracking array.

2 . The femoral implant device of claim 1 , wherein the offset factor comprises at least one of an offset distance and an offset angle.

3 . The femoral implant device of claim 1 , wherein the tracking array comprises a quick connect mechanism.

4 . The femoral implant device of claim 3 , wherein the tracking array comprises a point probe, wherein the point probe is configured to interchangeably connect to the quick connect mechanism.

5 . The femoral implant device of claim 1 , wherein the first end portion and the second end portion are integrally formed.

6 . The femoral implant device of claim 1 , wherein the intramedullary stem is integrally formed with the second end portion.

7 . The femoral implant device of claim 1 , wherein the offset component is patient-specific.

8 . The femoral implant device of claim 1 , wherein the axis of the reamed portion of the intramedullary canal is captured via a tracking array affixed to a reamer within the reamed portion of the intramedullary canal.
