Abstract

A display device including a display panel including a substrate, pixels provided on the substrate, and first lines connected to the pixels, the display device having a bending area where the display panel is bent. The display panel also includes a chip on film overlapping with a portion of the display panel and having second lines, an anisotropic conductive film provided between the chip on film and the display panel connecting the first lines and the second lines, and a coating layer covering the bending area and one end of the chip on film. In such a device, lines of the chip on film may be prevented from being corroded as they may be spaced apart from an edge of an insulating film.

Claims (57)

1 . A display device, comprising:

a display panel comprising a substrate, pixels disposed on the substrate, and first lines electrically connected to the pixels, the display panel comprising a bending area where the display panel is bent;

a polarizing layer disposed on a first surface of the display panel;

a chip on film overlapping an end portion of the display panel and comprising second lines;

a cushion member disposed on a rear surface of the display panel; and

a first coating layer covering the bending area of the display panel and one end of a surface of the chip on film, wherein:

a first boundary portion disposed between the first coating layer and an end portion of the polarizing layer overlaps the cushion member in a cross-sectional view;

a second boundary portion disposed between the first coating layer and one end portion of the chip on film overlaps the cushion member in a cross-sectional view; and

a gap is formed between the cushion member and the bending area of the display panel.

2 . The display device of claim 1 , wherein the first boundary portion is located opposite to the second boundary portion in a cross-sectional view.

3 . The display device of claim 1 , further comprising a second coating layer provided in the end portion of the display panel and covering another surface of the chip on film.

4 . The display device of claim 3 , wherein the first coating layer and the second coating layer are spaced apart from each other.

5 . The display device of claim 3 , wherein the substrate comprises:

a display area in which the pixels are provided;

a non-display area disposed in at least one side of the display area; and

the bending area disposed in the non-display area, and

the non-display area comprises an additional area protruding from a portion of the non-display area, and the display panel is bent in the additional area.

6 . The display device of claim 5 , wherein:

the display panel comprises a first flat area comprising the display area, a second flat area spaced apart from the first flat area, and the bending area disposed between the first flat area and the second flat area; and

the first flat area and the second flat area are parallel to each other.

7 . The display device of claim 6 , wherein the cushion member is disposed between the first flat area and the second flat area in a cross-sectional view.

8 . The display device of claim 6 , wherein:

the first coating layer covers an outer circumference of the display panel in the bending area; and

the first coating layer covers a portion of the first flat area and the second flat area.

9 . The display device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a printed circuit board connected to another end of the chip on film;

a window disposed on the polarizing layer; and

a cover receiving the window, the polarizing layer, the display panel, the cushion member, the first coating layer, the chip on film, and the printed circuit board.

10 . The display device of claim 1 , wherein the cushion member comprises a porous polymer having elasticity.
