Abstract

A system and method for securing equipment to a mobile system are disclosed. The mobile system includes a body supported on side rails and a separate pair of rails supported by the body. Equipment is removably secured to the pair of rails by one or more securing members to permit selective attachment and removal of the equipment while providing stable support during transport.

Claims (16)

1 . A method for securing a piece of equipment selected from the group of a toolbox, a mud flap, or a fuel tank, to a mobile, wherein the vehicle includes a side rail and a body supported on the side rail, method comprising the steps of:

(a) disposing a pair of rails underneath and supported by the body; and

(b) removably securing the equipment to the pair of rails with a securing mechanism comprising a captive nut.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising disposing the pair of rails parallel to a heading of the vehicle.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising disposing the pair of rails in parallel and spaced apart about 6 to 24 inches.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising powder coating the pair of rails.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the pair of rails comprises a slot for accommodating the securing mechanism.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is a truck.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising disposing a transverse support bar between the pair of rails and the piece of equipment to facilitate the securing step.

8 . An apparatus for securing a piece of equipment selected from the group of a toolbox, a mud flap, or a fuel tank, to a mobile, wherein the vehicle including a side rail and a body disposed over the side rail, the apparatus comprising: (a) a pair of rails disposed underneath and supported by the body, wherein the pair of rails are disposed in parallel, and (b) a securing mechanism configured to removably secure the piece of equipment to the pair of rails, wherein the securing mechanism comprises a captive nut.

9 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the pair of rails are configured to be disposed parallel to a heading of the vehicle.

10 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the pair of rails are spaced apart about 6 to 24 inches.

11 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the pair of rails are powder coated.

12 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the pair of rails comprises a slot.

13 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the vehicle is a truck.

14 . The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising a transverse support bar disposed between the pair of rails and the equipment in order for the bar to facilitate securement of the piece of equipment to the mobile system.
