a seam sealant sealing a joint between the structural panels;

wherein:

each structural panel with the secured barrier layer has a water vapor transmission rate from about 0.7 to about 7 grams/m 2 /24 hr, as determined by ASTM E96 procedure A (73° F.-50% RH) and/or a water vapor permeance from about 0.1 to about 12 perms, as determined by ASTM E96 procedure B (73° F.-50% RH) and/or each structural panel with the secured barrier layer has a liquid water transmission rate from about 1 to about 28 grams/100 in 2 /24 hr, via Cobb ring in accordance with ASTM D5795,

when installed each structural panel with the secured barrier and insulation layers pre-formed into the integral three-layer arrangement is placed external to the frame structure, with its insulation layer facing inward toward the frame structure, and fastened securely in place to the frame structure by fasteners extending all the way through the structural panel and the secured barrier and insulation layers and into the structural frame, and

wherein in use the installed structural panels with the secured barrier and insulation layers pre-formed into the integral three-layer arrangement are structural without installing additional structural bracing.

2 . The building structure of claim 1 , wherein each insulation layer has a density in the range of about 1 to about 20 pounds per cubic feet (pcf) according to ASTM D1622.

3 . The building structure of claim 1 , wherein each insulation layer has a water absorption of less than about 10% according to ASTM C209 or ASTM C2842.

4 . The building structure of claim 1 , wherein each insulation layer has a water vapor permeance from about 0.1 to about 20 perms as determined according to ASTM E96.

5 . The building structure of claim 1 , wherein each insulation layer has a thickness of about 0.25 in. to about 3 in.

6 . The building structure of claim 1 , wherein each system exhibits a thermal resistance value (R-value) from about 1 to about 15 according to ASTM C1289-02.

7 . The building structure of claim 1 , wherein each insulation layer has a dimensional stability of about less than 5% according to ASTM D2126.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the insulation layer has a compressive strength of at least about 5 pounds per square inch (psi) according to ASTM D1621.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the insulation layer has a tensile strength of greater than about 300 pounds per cubic foot (pcf) according to ASTM D1623.

10 . A building structure comprising:

a frame structure;

structural sheathing and insulating system for externally enveloping the frame structure, the system including:

a plurality of adjacent oriented strand board (OSB) panels fastened to the frame structure, each OSB panel comprising a barrier layer secured to an external facing surface of each OSB panel and an insulation layer secured to an internal facing surface of each OSB panel, wherein the OSB panel, the external facing barrier layer, and the internal facing insulation layer are pre-formed into an integral three-layer arrangement; and

a tape sealing a joint between the OSB panels;

wherein:

each OSB panel with the secured barrier layer has a water vapor transmission rate from about 0.7 to about 7 grams/m 2 /24 hr, as determined by ASTM E96 procedure A (73° F.-50% RH) and/or each OSB panel with the secured barrier layer has a water vapor permeance from about 0.1 to about 12 perms, as determined by ASTM E96 procedure B (73° F.-50% RH),

when installed each OSB panel with the secured barrier and insulation layers is placed external to the frame structure, with its insulation layer facing inward and contacting the frame structure, and fastened securely in place to the frame structure by fasteners extending all the way through the OSB panel and the secured barrier and insulation layers and into the frame structure, and

in use the installed OSB panels with the secured barrier and insulation layers exhibit at least the minimum allowable shear capacity (pounds per linear feet (plf)) for braced wall panels constructed according to method 3 described in 2006 International Building Code (IBC) Section 2308.9.3, and as determined in accordance with 2006 IBC and International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) Acceptance Criteria 269 (AC269).

11 . The building structure of claim 10 , wherein each insulation layer has a density in the range of about 1 to about 20 pounds per cubic feet (pcf) according to ASTM D1622.
