Golf club face plates with internal cell lattices and related methods
Embodiments of golf club face plates with internal cell lattices are presented herein. Other examples and related methods are also disclosed herein.
1 . A golf club head comprising:
a top rail, a sole, a heel, a toe, a faceplate, a rear portion, and a hosel,
a rear cavity formed between the faceplate and the rear portion, wherein the rear cavity is exposed to an exterior of the golf club head;
the rear portion defines a rear portion void extending through the rear portion in a heel-to-toe direction;
wherein the rear portion separates the rear portion void from the rear cavity;
wherein the rear portion void is filled with a cell lattice structure;
the cell lattice structure comprises a plurality of cross ribs extending across the rear portion;
wherein the plurality of cross ribs divides sections of the rear portion void to form a plurality of sub-voids; and
wherein the plurality of cross ribs extends in a high-heel to low-toe direction.
2 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the rear portion comprises a toe section, a heel section, and a center section;
wherein the rear portion void is formed in the center section of the rear portion.
3 . The golf club head of claim 2 , wherein the rear portion void is formed within a forward section of the rear portion.
4 . The golf club head of claim 1 , further comprising a tip weight and a toe screw weight, wherein:
the tip weight is located within a bore formed in the hosel; and
the toe screw weight is located within a toe screw port formed in the toe of the golf club head.
5 . The golf club head of claim 4 , wherein the tip weight comprises a tip weight mass, the tip weight mass being at least 10 grams; and
the toe screw weight comprises a toe screw weight mass, the toe screw weight mass being at least 15 grams.
6 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the rear portion void comprises a rear portion void length measured in a heel-to-toe direction;
wherein the rear portion void length is between 1 and 2 inches.
7 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the rear portion void comprises a rear portion void height measured in a sole-to-top rail direction;
wherein the rear portion void height is between 0.05 and 0.5 inch.
8 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the golf club head is printed layer by layer using a powdered material using direct metal laser sintering, 3D printing, stereolithography, fused deposition, or electron beam melting to print each layer.
9 . The golf club head of claim 8 , wherein the powdered material is selected from a group consisting of Ti-9S, Ti-6-4, and Ti-8-1-1.
10 . A golf club head comprising:
a top rail, a sole, a heel, a toe, a faceplate, a rear portion, and a hosel,
a rear cavity formed between the faceplate and the rear portion, wherein the rear cavity is exposed to an exterior of the golf club head;
the rear portion defines a rear portion void extending through the rear portion in a heel-to-toe direction;
wherein the rear portion separates the rear portion void from the rear cavity;
wherein the rear portion void is filled with a cell lattice structure;
the cell lattice structure comprises a plurality of cross ribs extending across the rear portion;
wherein the plurality of cross ribs divides sections of the rear portion void to form a plurality of sub-voids;
wherein the plurality of cross ribs extends in a high-heel to low-toe direction;
wherein the plurality of cross ribs comprise a cross rib thickness between 0.01 inch to 0.10 inch;
wherein the rear portion comprises a rear aperture providing a pathway from the rear portion void to the exterior of the golf club head;
wherein the rear aperture comprises a diameter between 0.005 inch and 0.2 inch; and
wherein the rear portion void is entirely enclosed within the rear portion, but for the rear aperture.
11 . The golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the rear aperture is filled in.
12 . The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the rear aperture is filled via welding.
13 . The golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the rear aperture is circular.
14 . The golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the rear portion comprises a toe section, a heel section, and a center section;
wherein the rear portion void is formed in the center section of the rear portion.
15 . A golf club head comprising:
a top rail, a sole, a heel, a toe, a faceplate located at a front end of the golf club head, a rear portion, and a hosel;
a ground plane tangent to the sole at an address position;
a rear cavity formed between the faceplate and the rear portion, wherein the rear cavity is exposed to an exterior of the golf club head;
the rear portion defines a rear portion void extending through the rear portion in a heel-to-toe direction;
wherein the rear portion separates the rear portion void from the rear cavity;
wherein the rear portion void is filled with a cell lattice structure;
the cell lattice structure comprises a plurality of cross ribs extending across the rear portion;
wherein the plurality of cross ribs extend parallel to one another in a diagonal direction;
a cross rib angle defined between one or more of the plurality of cross ribs and the ground plane;
wherein the cross rib angle is between 30 and 60 degrees; and
wherein the plurality of cross ribs extends in a front-to-rear direction within the rear portion void and divides sections of the rear portion void to form a plurality of sub-voids.
16 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein one or more of the plurality of cross ribs extends in a high-heel to low-toe direction.
17 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein one or more of the plurality of cross ribs comprises a gap that allows passage between adjacent sub-voids.
18 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of cross ribs comprise a cross rib thickness between 0.01 and 0.10 inch.
19 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein the cross rib angle is approximately 45 degrees.
