Abstract

An ambulatory medical device can detect a device condition and determine if the device condition satisfies a set of normal operating parameters. If the normal operating parameters are not satisfied, the ambulatory medical device can determine if the device condition stratifies a set of minimum operating parameters. If the minimum operating parameters are satisfied, the ambulatory medical device can maintain a delivery of therapy to a subject and generate an alert based on the device condition.

Claims (40)

1 . A glucose level control system configured to generate a dose output for administration of medicament to a subject, the glucose level control system comprising:

a memory configured to store specific computer-executable instructions; and

a hardware processor in communication with the memory and configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to perform operations comprising:

detecting a device condition of the glucose level control system; determining that the device condition does not satisfy a set of normal operating parameters for the glucose level control system indicating an occurrence of a malfunction of the glucose level control system, wherein the set of normal operating parameters enable the glucose level control system to provide a set of therapy related features supported by the glucose level control system;

determining that the device condition satisfies a set of minimum operating parameters, wherein the set of minimum operating parameters are sufficient to permit the glucose level control system to generate a dose output for administration of medicament to a subject, wherein the set of minimum operating parameters differs from the set of normal operating parameters, and wherein the set of minimum operating parameters enable the glucose level control system to provide a subset of the set of therapy related features supported by the glucose level control system; and

responsive to determining that the device condition satisfies the set of minimum operating parameters, the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to perform operations comprising:

maintaining the generation of the dose output by the glucose level control system,

wherein maintaining the generation of the dose output comprises a same rate of therapy administration to the subject, a reduced rate of therapy administration to the subject, or a minimum rate of therapy administration to the subject.

2 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , further comprising a medicament pump, wherein the medicament pump comprises an insulin pump capable of administering insulin, a counter-regulatory pump capable of administering a counter-regulatory agent, or a bi-hormonal pump capable of administering insulin and the counter-regulatory agent.

3 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein the glucose level control system is configured for administration of insulin and a counter-regulatory agent,

wherein, responsive to determining that the device condition does not satisfy the set of minimum operating parameters for administration of insulin, the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to suspend administration of insulin, and

wherein, responsive to determining that the device condition does not satisfy the set of minimum operating parameters for administration of the counter-regulatory agent, the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to suspend administration of the counter-regulatory agent.

4 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the set of minimum operating parameters are provided by a manufacturer of the glucose level control system, a healthcare provider, the subject, or an authorized user.

5 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the set of normal operating parameters are provided by a manufacturer of the glucose level control system, a healthcare provider, the subject, or an authorized user.

6 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein a user alert type at a given time depends on the detected device condition that triggered the generation of the user alert and/or the number of times the user alert has been generated before the given time.

7 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein, responsive to determining that the device condition does not satisfy the set of minimum operating parameters, the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to stop the generation of the dose output.

8 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein, responsive to determining that the device condition does not satisfy the set of minimum operating parameters, the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to generate a critical alert.

9 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein

responsive to determining that the device condition satisfies the set of minimum operating parameters, the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to perform operations comprising:

generating a user alert associated with the occurrence of the malfunction, wherein the user alert enables a user to determine the device condition of the glucose level control system.

10 . The glucose level control system of claim 9 , wherein generating the user alert comprises contacting a manufacturer or a healthcare provider.

11 . The glucose level control system of claim 9 , wherein generating the user alert comprises generating a display of instructions for resolving the detected device condition.

12 . The glucose level control system of claim 2 , wherein: the medicament pump is configured to provide therapy to the subject; and

in response to determining that the device condition does not satisfy a set of normal operating parameters for the medicament pump, the hardware processor is configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to maintain the administration of therapy by the medicament pump to the subject at a normal rate.

13 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein determining that the device condition satisfies the set of minimum operating parameters comprises determining that a malfunction of the glucose level control system is not sufficient to prevent the generation of the dose output.

14 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein the malfunction of the glucose level control system comprises a maintenance condition.

15 . The glucose level control system of claim 14 , wherein the maintenance condition comprises a low battery level or a low medicament level.

16 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein the malfunction comprises a fault in a haptic system of the glucose level control system, a fault in a transceiver of the glucose level control system, or a fault in a user interface system of the glucose level control system.

17 . The glucose level control system of claim 1 , wherein the reduced rate of therapy administration comprises basal medicament therapy and therapy responsive to a meal announcement.

18 . The glucose level control system of claim 17 , wherein the minimum rate of therapy administration comprises basal insulin therapy without the therapy responsive to the meal announcement.

19 . A computer-implemented method of managing a non-critical malfunction of a glucose level control system configured to generate a dose output for administration of medicament to a subject, the computer-implemented method comprising:

by a processor of a glucose level control system configured to generate a dose output for administration of medicament to a subject,

detecting a device condition of the glucose level control system;

determining that the device condition does not satisfy a set of normal operating parameters for the glucose level control system indicating an occurrence of a malfunction of the glucose level control system, wherein the set of normal operating parameters enable the glucose level control system to provide a set of therapy related features supported by the glucose level control system;

determining that the device condition satisfies a set of minimum operating parameters, wherein the set of minimum operating parameters are sufficient to permit the glucose level control system to generate the dose output, wherein the set of minimum operating parameters differs from the set of normal operating parameters, and wherein the set of minimum operating parameters enable the glucose level control system to provide a subset of the set of therapy related features supported by the glucose level control system, and

responsive to determining that the device condition satisfies the set of minimum operating parameters,

maintaining the generation of the dose output by the glucose level control system,

wherein maintaining the generation of the dose output comprises a same rate of therapy administration to the subject, a reduced rate of therapy administration to the subject, or a minimum rate of therapy administration to the subject.
