Abstract

A system and method for local survivability in a distributed contact center environment has a first processor in a first contact center node receiving a first request for interaction. The first processor transmits a first message to a second contact center node in response to the request for interaction. The first message is configured to invoke a first resource associated with the second contact center node for handling the interaction via the first resource. The first processor monitors connection with the second contact center node. The first processor receives a second request for interaction, and further determines lack of connection with the second contact center node. In response to determining lack of connection with the second contact center node, the first processor refrains from transmitting a second message to the second contact center node. According to one embodiment, the second message is for invoking a second resource associated with the second contact center node for handling the interaction via the second resource.

Claims (42)

1. A method for local survivability in a distributed contact center environment, the method comprising:

receiving, by a first processor associated with a first contact center node, a first request for a first interaction;

processing the first request, by the first processor, according to a first mode of operation, wherein in the first mode of operation, the first processor invokes a second contact center node for providing a particular contact center service not currently enabled for being provided by the first contact center node, wherein the invoking of the second contact center node includes transmitting, by the first processor, a first message to a second contact center node in response to the first request for the first interaction, wherein the first message is configured to invoke a first resource associated with the second contact center node for handling the first interaction via the first resource; monitoring, by the first processor, connection with the second contact center node;

receiving, by the first processor, a second request for a second interaction;

determining, by the first processor, lack of connection with the second contact center node;

in response to determining the lack of connection with the second contact center node:

identifying a contact center agent logged into the second contact center node; and

logging the contact center agent out of the second contact center node and into the first contact center node;

switching from a first mode of operation to a second mode of operation, wherein in the second mode of operation, the first processor is configured to refrain from invoking the second contact center node for providing the particular contact center service, and instead, enable a second resource of the first contact center node for providing the particular contact center service for handling the second request via the second resource;

routing, by the first contact center node, the second request to the contact center agent,

determining that the connection with the second contact center node has been restored; and

re-logging the contact center agent into the second contact center node.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first or second resource is a media port of a media server associated with respectively the second or first contact center nodes.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first or second interaction is a voice call, and the handling of the interaction is playing media during the voice call.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first message is a request for media service.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising: transmitting, by the first processor, to a peer node coupled to the first node in a peer-to-peer network, a third message indicative of capacity of the local resource of the first contact center node.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the third message is for requesting additional capacity, wherein in response to the third message, the peer node provides the requested additional capacity.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the providing the additional capacity to the first contact center node includes handling third interaction received by the first processor, by the peer node via a local resource at the peer node.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein in response to determining lack of connection with the second contact center node, the contact center agent identified as being logged in the second contact center node is prompted to re-log into the first contact center node.

9. A system for local survivability in a distributed contact center environment, the system comprising:

a processor hosted by a first contact center node; and

a memory, wherein the memory stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

receive a first request for a first interaction;

process the first request according to a first mode of operation, wherein in the first mode of operation, the instructions further cause the processor to invoke a second contact center node for providing a particular contact center service not currently enabled for being provided by the first contact center node, wherein the instructions that cause the processor to invoke the second contact center node include instructions that cause the processor to transmit a first message to a second contact center node in response to the first request for the first interaction, wherein the first message is configured to invoke a first resource associated with the second contact center node for handling the first interaction via the first resource;

monitor connection with the second contact center node;

receive a second request for a second interaction;

determine lack of connection with the second contact center node;

in response to determining the lack of connection with the second contact center node:

identify a contact center agent logged into the second contact center node;

log the contact center agent out of the second contact center node and into the first contact center node;

switch from a first mode of operation to a second mode of operation, wherein in the second mode of operation, the instructions cause the processor to refrain from invoking the second contact center node for providing the particular contact center service, and instead, enable a second resource of the first contact center node for providing the particular contact center service for handling the second request via the second resource;

route the second request to the contact center agent;

determining that the connection with the second contact center node has been restored; and

re-logging the contact center agent into the second contact center node.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the first or second resource is a media port of a media server associated with respectively the second and first contact center nodes.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first or second interaction is a voice call, and the handling of the interaction is playing media during the voice call.

12. The system of claim 9 , wherein the first message is a request for media service.

13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to:

transmit to a peer node coupled to the first node in a peer-to-peer network, a third message indicative of capacity of the local resource of the first contact center node.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the third message is for requesting additional capacity, wherein in response to the third message, the peer node is configured to provide the requested additional capacity.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the peer node is configured to handle a third interaction received by the first processor, via a local resource at the peer node.

16. The system of claim 9 , wherein in response to determining lack of connection with the second contact center node, the contact center agent identified as being logged in the second contact center node is prompted to re-log into the first contact center node.
