Abstract

A housing including a plurality of openings for receiving fiber optic connectors and protecting the polished end face of the connectors from damage while the connectors are stored within a telecommunications connection cabinet. A module with a plurality of optical fiber cables connected to a first optical fiber cable and terminated by a fiber optic connector. Each of the connectors are inserted within openings in a connector holder for storage and protection until the cables need to be connected to a customer equipment cable.

Claims (30)

1. A telecommunications cabinet comprising:

a cabinet housing defining an interior;

a splitter region disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing;

an optical splitter disposed at the splitter region, wherein the optical splitter is configured to split an optical signal carried by an input fiber onto a plurality of output fibers having connectorized ends;

a distribution panel disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing;

a plurality of optical adapters disposed at the distribution panel;

a storage region disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing at a location spaced from the splitter region and spaced from the distribution panel; and

a connector holder disposed at the storage region, the connector holder not including connecting structure to optically couple together two fiber optic connectors.

2. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder is one of a plurality of connector holders disposed at the storage region.

3. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder has an elongated body defining a single row of apertures that lead to closed-ended receptacles.

4. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder has an elongated body defining a single row of apertures that receive optical plugs with dust caps mounted over polished end faces of the optical plugs.

5. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 3 , further comprising a plurality of fiber optic connectors held by the connector holder so that polished end faces of the fiber optic connectors are protected within the receptacles.

6. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the splitter region is disposed between the distribution panel and the storage region.

7. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 6 , wherein the storage region is disposed beneath the splitter region.

8. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 7 , wherein the storage region is disposed beneath the distribution panel.

9. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the storage region is disposed beneath the splitter region.

10. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the storage region is disposed beneath the distribution panel.

11. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder includes a latch arm with which the connector holder latches to a panel at the storage region.

12. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder fits into an aperture defined in a panel at the storage region.

13. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder defines a row of apertures at which plug connectors are received, the row extending horizontally when the connector holder is installed at the storage region.

14. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the storage region is positioned alongside an interior wall of the cabinet housing.

15. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the distribution panel and the storage region are formed by a bulkhead disposed within the cabinet housing.

16. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , further comprising:

a cable management region disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing; and

a plurality of bend radius limiters disposed at the cable management region.

17. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 16 , wherein the cable management region is disposed beneath the splitter region.

18. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 16 , wherein the cable management region is disposed alongside the distribution panel and the splitter region.

19. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 18 , wherein the cable management region is disposed alongside the storage region.

20. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the cable management region is a first cable management region; and wherein a second cable management region is disposed at an opposite side of the distribution panel from the first cable management region.

21. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the optical splitter includes a boot through which the output fibers extend.
