Abstract

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for acoustically transferring information between systems. In a particular embodiment, a method provides identifying information for acoustic transfer and determining an amount of time corresponding to the information. The method further provides acoustically transmitting a signal at a first time and, upon the amount of time elapsing since the first time, acoustically transmitting the signal at a second time.

Claims (43)

1. A method of acoustically transferring information, comprising:

identifying information, comprising a number, for acoustic transfer;

determining an amount of time comprising an amount of digital audio samples equaling the number;

acoustically transmitting a signal at a first time; and

upon the amount of time elapsing since the first time, acoustically transmitting the signal at a second time.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

acoustically receiving the signal transmitted at the first time and the signal transmitted at the second time; and

deriving the information by determining an amount of digital audio samples between receipt of the signal transmitted at the first time and receipt of the signal transmitted at the second time.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein deriving the information comprises:

determining a correlation between the signal transmitted at the first time and the signal transmitted at the second time; and

determining the amount of digital audio samples between peaks resulting from the correlation.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

before the first time, acoustically transmitting two synchronization signals for receiver synchronization, wherein a time period separating the transmission of the two synchronization signals is known to a receiver system.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the two synchronization signals comprise two instances of the signal.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying second information, comprising a second number, for acoustic transfer;

determining a second amount of time, comprising a second amount of digital audio samples equaling the second number; and

upon the second amount of time elapsing since the second time, acoustically transmitting the signal at a third time.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the signal comprises frequencies audible to the human ear.

8. A method of acoustically transferring information, comprising:

acoustically receiving a signal at a first time;

acoustically receiving the signal at a second time; and

deriving information, comprising a number, by determining an amount of digital audio samples between the first time and the second time, wherein the amount of digital audio sample equals the number.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein deriving the information comprises:

determining a correlation between the signal received at the first time and the signal received at the second time; and

determining the amount of digital audio samples between peaks resulting from the correlation.

10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

before the first time, acoustically receiving two synchronization signals for receiver synchronization, wherein a time period separating receipt of the two synchronization signals is known to a receiver system.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the two synchronization signals comprise two instances of the signal.

12. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

acoustically receiving the signal at a third time;

acoustically receiving the signal at a fourth time; and

deriving information, comprising a second number, by determining a second amount of digital audio samples between the third time and the fourth time, wherein the second amount of digital audio sample equals the second number.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the signal comprises frequencies audible to the human ear.

14. A transmitter system for acoustically transferring information, comprising:

a processing system configured to identify information, comprising a number, for acoustic transfer and determine an amount of time comprising an amount of digital audio samples equaling the number;

an acoustic transmitter configured to acoustically transmit a signal at the first time and, upon the amount of time elapsing since the first time, acoustically transmit the signal at a second time.

15. The transmitter system of claim 14 , further comprising:

the acoustic transmitter configured to acoustically transmit, before the first time, two synchronization signals for receiver synchronization, wherein a time period separating the transmission of the two synchronization signals is known to a receiver system.

16. The transmitter system of claim 15 , wherein the two synchronization signals comprise two instances of the signal.

17. The transmitter system of claim 14 , further comprising:

the processing system configured to identify second information, comprising a second number, for acoustic transfer and determine a second amount of time comprising a second amount of digital audio samples equaling the second number; and

the acoustic transmitter configured to, upon the second amount of time elapsing since the second time, acoustically transmit the signal at a third time.
