Abstract

A system and method in at least one embodiment for separating fluids including liquids and gases into subcomponents by passing the fluid through an intake chamber into an expansion chamber and then through at least a portion of a waveform pattern present between at least two rotors and/or disks. In at least one embodiment, the waveform patterns include a plurality of hyperbolic waveforms axially aligned around a horizontal center of the system.

Claims (41)

1. A system comprising:

an intake having a housing with an intake chamber;

a disk-pack turbine having two disks each having a waveform surface and a second surface, the waveform surfaces face each other and have an axially centered waveform pattern having at least one waveform that has an amplitude that varies in a radial direction, said waveform pattern includes at least one waveform selected from a group consisting of biaxial, multi-axial sinusoidal, and hyperbolic waveforms, at least one disk includes an axially centered opening passing from the second surface to the waveform surface, said disks define an expansion chamber including the opening and a disk chamber between said disks from the expansion chamber to a periphery of said disks;

a drive system mechanically engaging said disk-pack turbine, and

wherein a fluid pathway runs from said intake chamber to said periphery of said disks through the axially centered opening of said disk closest to said intake chamber into the expansion chamber into the disk chamber, this axially centered opening converges a fluid flow from said intake chamber prior to the fluid flow expanding into the expansion chamber.

2. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said waveform pattern increases a number of peaks for each waveform level progressing out from the inner most waveform about said axial center to said periphery.

3. The system according to claim 2 , wherein a multiplier for the number of peaks is in a range of 2 to 8 for each waveform level from the preceding waveform.

4. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said waveform pattern provides a continuously curved face to eliminate almost all right angles and flat surfaces from said waveform surface.

5. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said disks include at least one material selected from a group consisting of aluminum, brass, stainless steel, carbon fiber, copper, magnesium, non-ferrous material alloys, and non-ferrous material alloys containing bismuth.

6. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said disk-pack turbine further includes at least one additional disk between said disks, each additional disk includes

a top surface,

a bottom surface,

a waveform pattern on said top surface and said bottom surface such that disk chambers are present between the neighboring waveform patterns, and

an opening passing from said top surface to said bottom surface.

7. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said disk-pack turbine further includes:

a top rotor attached to one disk, said top rotor having an opening passing through the axial center and aligned with the opening passing through the attached disk, and

a bottom rotor attached to the other disk, said bottom rotor having a parabolic indent at its axial center defining a bottom of the expansion chamber; and

wherein the disks are between said top rotor and said bottom rotor.

8. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said intake includes a plurality of inlets in fluid communication with said intake chamber.

9. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said drive system includes a motor and a driveshaft connected to said motor.

10. A system comprising:

an intake having a housing with an intake chamber;

a disk-pack turbine having

a top rotor having an opening passing through the axial center and aligned with said intake chamber,

a bottom rotor having a parabolic indent aligned with the opening in said top rotor and a mount,

a first disk attached to said top rotor,

a second disk attached to said bottom rotor,

said first and second disks each having a waveform surface facing said other disk and an opening passing therethrough aligned with the opening in said top rotor, the waveform surface has an axially centered waveform pattern having at least one waveform that has an amplitude that varies in a radial direction, said waveform pattern includes at least one waveform selected from a group consisting of biaxial, multi-axial sinusoidal, and hyperbolic waveforms, said disks define a disk chamber from the axial center openings to a periphery of said disks, and

the axially centered openings of said top rotor and said disks and said parabolic indent of said bottom rotor define an expansion chamber; and

a drive system having a motor and a driveshaft, said driveshaft mechanically engaging said motor and said mount of said bottom rotor, and

wherein a fluid pathway runs from said intake chamber to said periphery of said disks through the top rotor opening into the expansion chamber into the disk chamber, the top rotor opening converges a fluid flow from said intake chamber prior to the fluid flow expanding into the expansion chamber.

11. The system according to claim 10 , wherein said waveform pattern increases a number of peaks for each waveform level progressing out from the inner most waveform about said axial center to said periphery.

12. The system according to claim 11 , wherein a multiplier for the number of peaks is in a range of 2 to 8 for each waveform level from the preceding waveform.

13. The system according to claim 11 , wherein each waveform level includes multiple waveforms.

14. The system according to claim 10 , wherein said waveform pattern provides a continuously curved face to eliminate almost all right angles and flat surfaces from said waveform surface.

15. The system according to claim 10 , wherein said disks include at least one material selected from a group consisting of aluminum, brass, stainless steel, carbon fiber, copper, magnesium, non-ferrous material alloys, and non-ferrous material alloys containing bismuth.

16. The system according to claim 10 , wherein said disk-pack turbine further includes at least one additional disk between said disks, each additional disk includes

a top surface,

a bottom surface,

a waveform pattern on said top surface and said bottom surface such that disk chambers are present between the neighboring waveform patterns, and

an opening passing from said top surface to said bottom surface.
