Abstract

A pair of waveform rotors and/or disks for use in a disk-pack turbine used, for example, in systems and methods in at least one embodiment for separating fluids including liquids and gases into subcomponents by passing the fluid into an expansion chamber and then through at least a portion of a waveform pattern present between at least two rotors and/or disks. The rotors and/or disks having waveform patterns on at least one side.

Claims (45)

1. A waveform rotor pair comprising:

a first rotor having an opening passing therethrough;

a second rotor;

each rotor having

just one surface with a waveform pattern centered about an axial center of the rotor with the waveform patterns being complementary to each other and having no angles along any radius extending from a start of the waveform pattern to an end of the waveform pattern, the opening located at the axial center of the first rotor, and

a plurality of mounting holes spaced around a periphery of each rotor, and

wherein when the first rotor and the second rotor are assembled together, a disk chamber is defined between the rotors.

2. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 , wherein

the waveform pattern on one of the first rotor and the second rotor includes a sinusoidal ridge and a circular ridge; and

the waveform pattern on the other of the first rotor and the second rotor includes a circular outer face ridge.

3. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 , wherein

the waveform pattern on the first rotor includes a sinusoidal ridge, a middle ridge, and a circular ridge, the middle ridge having a substantially circular outer face and a sinusoidal inner face; and

the waveform pattern on the second rotor includes an inner ridge, a sinusoidal ridge, and a circular ridge, the inner ridge having a circular inner face and a sinusoidal outer face.

4. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 3 , wherein an order of ridges when the rotors are assembled from the axial center is the second rotor inner ridge, the first rotor sinusoidal ridge, the second rotor sinusoidal ridge, the first rotor middle ridge, the second rotor circular ridge, and the first rotor circular ridge.

5. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 , wherein

the waveform pattern on the first rotor includes an inner ridge, a sinusoidal ridge, and a circular ridge, the inner ridge having a circular inner face and a sinusoidal outer face; and

the waveform pattern on the second rotor includes a sinusoidal ridge, a middle ridge, and a circular ridge, the middle ridge having a substantially circular outer face and a sinusoidal inner face.

6. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 5 , wherein an order of ridges when the rotors are assembled from the axial center is the first rotor inner ridge, the second rotor sinusoidal ridge, the first rotor sinusoidal ridge, the second rotor middle ridge, the first rotor circular ridge, and the second rotor circular ridge.

7. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 , wherein the waveform pattern on the first rotor includes a ridge having a sinusoidal inner face and a substantially circular outer face.

8. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 , wherein the waveform pattern on the second rotor includes a ridge having a circular inner face and a sinusoidal outer face.

9. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 , wherein the waveform patterns on each rotor include three ridges.

10. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 , wherein the waveform patterns on both rotors include a series of concentric circles.

11. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 10 , wherein the second rotor includes a concave feature in the axial center of the waveform pattern and when the rotors are assembled, the concave feature is aligned with the opening passing through the first rotor.

12. A waveform rotor pair comprising:

a first rotor having an opening passing therethrough;

a second rotor having a concave feature;

each rotor having

one surface with a waveform pattern centered about an axial center of the rotor with the waveform patterns being complementary to each other and having no angles along any radius extending from a start of the waveform pattern to an end of the waveform pattern, the opening located at the axial center of the first rotor, and

a plurality of mounting holes spaced around a periphery of each rotor, and

wherein the concave feature of the second rotor is in the axial center of the waveform pattern; and

wherein when the first rotor and the second rotor are assembled together, a disk chamber is defined between the rotors and the concave feature of the second rotor is aligned with the opening passing through the first rotor.

13. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 , wherein the second rotor includes a motor mount on a bottom of the second rotor.

14. The waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 , wherein each waveform pattern having waveforms each being intersected twice by a diameter taken along the surface with the waveform pattern.

15. A disk-pack turbine comprising the waveform rotor pair according to claim 1 .

16. A disk-pack turbine comprising:

a first disk having an opening passing therethrough its axial center;

a second disk;

each disk having

just one surface with a waveform pattern centered about an axial center of the disk with the waveform patterns being complementary to each other, and having no angles along any radius extending from a start of the waveform pattern to an end of the waveform pattern, and

a plurality of mounting holes spaced around a periphery of the disk, and

wherein when the first disk and the second disk are assembled together, a disk chamber is defined between the disks and defines a fluid pathway through the opening located in the axial center of the first disk to the peripheries of the disks.

17. The disk-pack turbine according to claim 16 , wherein the waveform patterns on both disks include a series of concentric circles.

18. The disk-pack turbine according to claim 17 , wherein the second disk includes a concave feature in the axial center of the disk and the waveform pattern and the concave feature is aligned with the opening passing through the first disk.
