Abstract

Embodiments of golf club heads, golf clubs, and methods to manufacture golf club heads and golf clubs are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head includes a body portion having an exterior portion and an interior portion, a first port on the body portion configured to connect the exterior portion to the interior portion of the body portion, a second port on the body portion configured to connect the exterior portion to the interior portion, a mass portion located in the interior portion of the body portion and coupled to the back wall portion, and a third material in the body portion between the mass portion and the face portion. The mass portion is at a different location than the first port and the second port. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims (45)

1. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion comprising a first material having a first density, an exterior portion, an interior portion, a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion including a face portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge;

a first mass portion extending through the back wall portion from the exterior portion of the body portion to the interior portion of the body portion;

a second mass portion located in the interior portion of the body portion, the second mass portion comprising a second material having a second density greater than the first density and having a different shape than the first mass portion;

a port on the body portion configured to connect the exterior portion of the body portion to the interior portion of the body portion;

a third material coupled to the interior portion of the body portion, the third material having a third density less than the first density, and the third material having a greater elasticity than the first material and having a greater elasticity than the second material,

wherein the port is at a different location than the first mass portion and the second mass portion;

wherein a distance between the first mass portion and the sole portion edge is less than a distance between the first mass portion and the top portion edge,

wherein a distance between the second mass portion and the sole portion edge is less than a distance between the second mass portion and the top portion edge, and

wherein a distance between the second mass portion and the toe portion edge is less than a distance between the first mass portion and the toe portion edge.

2. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first mass portion is cylindrical.

3. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second mass portion is non-cylindrical.

4. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first material comprises 8620 alloy steel and the second material comprises a tungsten-based material.

5. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the third material comprises a polymer-based material.

6. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second mass portion comprises a length and a width, and wherein the length is greater than the width.

7. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first mass portion and the second mass portion comprise different materials.

8. An iron-type golf club head comprising:

a body portion comprising a first material having a first density, an exterior portion, an interior portion, a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion including a face portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge;

a first port on the body portion configured to connect the exterior portion of the body portion to the interior portion of the body portion;

a second port on the body portion configured to connect the exterior portion of the body portion to the interior portion of the body portion;

a mass portion located in the interior portion of the body portion and coupled to the back wall portion, the mass portion comprising a second material having a second density different from the first density, the mass portion having a different shape than the first port and the second port; and

a third material in the body portion between the mass portion and the face portion, the third material having a greater elasticity than the first material and having a greater elasticity than the second material,

wherein the mass portion is at a different location than the first port and the second port, and

wherein a distance between the second port and the heel portion edge is less than a distance between the first port and the heel portion edge.

9. An iron-type golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein first port is cylindrical having a first diameter, and wherein the second port is cylindrical having a second diameter different from the first diameter.

10. An iron-type golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the mass portion comprises a length, a width, and a depth, and wherein the length is greater than the width and greater than the depth.

11. An iron-type golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the first material comprises 8620 alloy steel.

12. An iron-type golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the second material comprises a metal or metal alloy, and wherein the second density is greater than the first density.

13. An iron-type golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the third material comprises polymer-based material injected into the body portion from the first port or the second port.

14. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion comprising a first material having a first density, an exterior portion, an interior portion, a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion including a face portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge;

a first port on the body portion configured to connect the exterior portion of the body portion to the interior portion of the body portion;

a first mass portion;

a second port on the body portion configured to connect the exterior portion of the body portion to the interior portion of the body portion, the second port configured to receive the first mass portion;

a second mass portion comprising a second material having a second density different from the first density, a length, a width, and a depth, and wherein the length is greater than the width and greater than the depth;

a third port located in the interior portion of the body portion and extending from an inner surface of the back wall portion toward the face portion, the third port configured to receive the second mass portion; and
