Abstract

The present invention relates to phosphonate compounds, compositions containing them, processes for obtaining them, and their use for treating a variety of medical disorders, e.g., osteoporosis and other disorders of bone metabolism, cancer, viral infections, and the like.

Claims (26)

1. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of the compound:

and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

2. A method of treating hepatitis B virus comprising administering to a subject in need thereof the pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 .

3. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 , wherein the compound is:

4. A method of treating hepatitis B virus comprising administering to a subject in need thereof the pharmaceutical composition of claim 3 .

wherein M + is Na + , Li + , K + , Ca + , Mg 2+ , or NR c R d R e R f + , wherein R c , R d , R e and R f are each independently hydrogen or C 1-5 alkyl.

10. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 3 , wherein the compound is

wherein M + is Na + , Li + , K + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , or NR c R d R e R f + , wherein R c , R d , R e and R f are each independently hydrogen or C 1-5 alkyl.

11. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 9 , wherein the compound is

The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 , further comprising one or more components selected from the group consisting of preservatives, solubilizers, stabilizers, wetting agents, emulsifiers, sweeteners, colorants, flavorings, buffers, coating agents, antioxidants, diluents, and combinations thereof.

14. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 in the form of a tablet or capsule for oral administration.

15. The composition of claim 14 in the form of a tablet further comprising an excipient selected from the group consisting of lactose, maize starch, talc, stearic acid and salts or combinations thereof.

16. The composition of claim 14 in the form of a capsule further comprising an excipient selected from the group consisting of vegetable oil, wax, fat, semisolid or liquid polyols and combinations thereof.

17. The composition of claim 14 in the form of a tablet further comprising a carrier selected from the group consisting of lactose, sucrose, talc, gelatin, agar, pectin, acacia, magnesium stearate, stearic acid, lower alkyl ethers of cellulose, and combinations thereof.

18. The composition of claim 14 in the form of a capsule further comprising a carrier selected from the group consisting of syrup, peanut oil, olive oil, phospholipids, fatty acids, fatty acid amines, polyoxyethylene, water, and combinations thereof.

19. The composition of claim 14 further comprising a sustained release material selected from glyceryl monostearate, glyceryl distearate, wax, and combinations thereof.
