Abstract

There has been a problem that difference in refractive index between an opposite substrate or a moisture barrier layer provided thereover, and air is maintained large, and light extraction efficiency is low. Further, there has been a problem that peeling or cracking due to the moisture barrier layer is easily generated, which leads to deteriorate the reliability and lifetime of a light-emitting element. A light-emitting element comprises a pixel electrode, an electroluminescent layer, a transparent electrode, a passivation film, a stress relieving layer, and a low refractive index layer, all of which are stacked sequentially. The stress relieving layer serves to prevent peeling of the passivation film. The low refractive index layer serves to reduce reflectivity of light generated in the electroluminescent layer in emitting to air. Therefore, a light-emitting element with high reliability and long lifetime and a display device using the light-emitting element can be provided.

Claims (57)

1. A display device comprising:

a transistor;

a first electrode electrically connected to the transistor;

a light-emitting layer over the first electrode, the light-emitting layer comprising an organic material;

a second electrode over the light-emitting layer, the second electrode comprising indium;

a first layer over and in direct contact with the second electrode, the first layer comprising silicon nitride;

a second layer over and in direct contact with the first layer, the second layer comprising an inorganic material;

a third layer over and in direct contact with the second layer;

a fourth layer over and in direct contact with the third layer;

a color filter over the fourth layer;

a fifth layer over the color filter; and

a glass substrate over and in direct contact with the fifth layer,

wherein a refractive index of the second layer is smaller than a refractive index of the first layer,

wherein a refractive index of the third layer is smaller than the refractive index of the second layer, and

wherein a refractive index of the fourth layer is smaller than the refractive index of the first layer.

2. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the third layer comprises any one of lithium fluoride, magnesium fluoride, calcium fluoride and barium fluoride.

3. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the light-emitting layer is configured to exhibit red emission, green emission, or blue emission.

4. An electric appliance comprising the display device according to claim 1 , wherein the electric appliance is any one of a television device, a camera, a cellular phone device, a personal digital assistant, a portable game machine, a monitor, a computer, a sound reproduction device, and an image reproduction device.

5. A display device comprising:

a transistor;

a first electrode electrically connected to the transistor;

a light-emitting layer over the first electrode, the light-emitting layer comprising an organic material;

a second electrode over the light-emitting layer, the second electrode comprising indium;

a first layer over and in direct contact with the second electrode, the first layer comprising silicon nitride;

a second layer over and in direct contact with the first layer, the second layer comprising an inorganic material;

a third layer over and in direct contact with the second layer;

a fourth layer over and in direct contact with the third layer;

a color filter over the fourth layer;

a fifth layer over the color filter; and

a glass substrate over and in direct contact with the fifth layer,

wherein a refractive index of the second layer is smaller than a refractive index of the first layer,

wherein a refractive index of the third layer is smaller than the refractive index of the second layer,

wherein a refractive index of the fourth layer is smaller than the refractive index of the first layer, and

wherein a refractive index of the fifth layer is smaller than a refractive index of the glass substrate.

6. The display device according to claim 5 , wherein the third layer comprises any one of lithium fluoride, magnesium fluoride, calcium fluoride and barium fluoride.

7. The display device according to claim 5 , wherein the light-emitting layer is configured to exhibit red emission, green emission, or blue emission.

8. An electric appliance comprising the display device according to claim 5 , wherein the electric appliance is any one of a television device, a camera, a cellular phone device, a personal digital assistant, a portable game machine, a monitor, a computer, a sound reproduction device, and an image reproduction device.

9. A display device comprising:

a transistor;

a first electrode electrically connected to the transistor;

a light-emitting layer over the first electrode, the light-emitting layer comprising an organic material;

a second electrode over the light-emitting layer, the second electrode comprising indium;

a first layer over and in direct contact with the second electrode, the first layer comprising silicon nitride;

a second layer over and in direct contact with the first layer, the second layer comprising an inorganic material;

a third layer over and in direct contact with the second layer;

a fourth layer over and in direct contact with the third layer;

a color filter over the fourth layer;

a fifth layer over the color filter; and

a glass substrate over and in direct contact with the fifth layer,

wherein a refractive index of the second layer is smaller than a refractive index of the first layer,

wherein a refractive index of the third layer is smaller than the refractive index of the second layer,

wherein a refractive index of the fourth layer is smaller than the refractive index of the first layer,

wherein a refractive index of the fifth layer is smaller than a refractive index of the glass substrate, and

wherein the second electrode, the first layer, the second layer, the third layer, the fourth layer, the color filter, the fifth layer, and the glass substrate are capable of transmitting light emitted from the light-emitting layer.

10. The display device according to claim 9 , wherein the third layer comprises any one of lithium fluoride, magnesium fluoride, calcium fluoride and barium fluoride.

11. The display device according to claim 9 , wherein the light-emitting layer is configured to exhibit red emission, green emission, or blue emission.

12. An electric appliance comprising the display device according to claim 9 , wherein the electric appliance is any one of a television device, a camera, a cellular phone device, a personal digital assistant, a portable game machine, a monitor, a computer, a sound reproduction device, and an image reproduction device.
